leadership coaching in westchester ny: LEADERSHIP THAT INSPIRES RESULTS - 07/05/15 01:30 PM
During this Independence Day weekend it might be appropriate to talk about leadership by recalling leadership quotes from some of our past military leaders.
It is not surprising that many great civilian leaders that we have known have received their leadership lessons in the US military.

"Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity." -- Gen. George S. Patton

"Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it."
               -- President Dwight D. Eisenhower

leadership coaching in westchester ny: ARE THE WHEELS COMING OFF OF YOUR TEAM? - 04/19/15 02:21 PM
You would not be driving your car if the wheels were coming off, would you?  You would call your local mechanic and ask for help.  Now suppose he tells you that your car is so badly misaligned that it should not be driven until it is realigned.  Wouldn't you get it realigned immediately?
Now what about your work team or your company?  Are you operating a business that is badly misaligned?
Before the wheels come off your business, stop!  Ask yourself this question: “Have I clearly communicated the objectives, the goals, or our direction to our team?” If the answer is yes … (33 comments)

leadership coaching in westchester ny: MY SCRATCH THE ITCH ENTRY - HIGHLIGHTING LEADERSHIP - 09/24/14 05:18 AM

I have been giving Richie’s "Scratch the Itch" contest a lot of thought.  I have had a tag line since I started my business in 2009.  The one I have been using is”Taking Your Business from Good to Great.” Of course, that was really coined by Jim Collins.  So I have experimented with others.  I still wish I could come up with a memorable rhyme but it still hasen’t happened.  Then I started using, “Creating Results YOU can count on.”
Of course, I want a tagline that identifies instantly with me and what I represent.  When I go to … (23 comments)

leadership coaching in westchester ny: WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM THE PETER PRINCIPLE - 06/08/14 09:43 PM
Sometimes we take actions without thinking and this results in unintended consequences.  The Peter Principle is really about unintended consequences in promotion of people in any organization.
In 1969, Lawrence Peter wrote the book The Peter Principle.  He said that whenever you have any type of organizational structure your people tend to get promoted into job they can't handle, or as he says it, they are promoted to the level of their incompetence. He noted that although this is not planned it is the unintended consequence.
Isn't is true that in any sales organization people are recognized by being promoted?  … (34 comments)

leadership coaching in westchester ny: TAKING YOUR BUSINESS TO THE NEXT LEVEL - 01/05/14 08:05 PM
Do you want to take your small business to the next level? Most businesses say yes but do not know what that means. First of all you need to know where your business is now. You have to have a starting point. Then you can see where you want to go. Businesses like people go through growth stages and many drop off along the way.  Some businesses may survive due to external dynamics and timing but they will become stagnant and the owner will feel like a hamster on a wheel. There is a lack of entrepreneurial leadership.
Let’s take an … (8 comments)

leadership coaching in westchester ny: YOUR BIGGEST BUSINESS OBSTACLES COULD BE BAD HABITS - 12/22/13 08:35 PM
Business success obstacles will sometimes be as simple as bad habits and behaviors. In my career in the corporate world as well as in my own business I have seen great time and effort on skills and knowledge training. Skills and knowledge are important.  Have you noticed, however, that the one with the greatest skills ends up failing and ultimately quitting.  Unwillingness to change habits and behaviors is a big cause. I think it was Einstein who said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result.
If you have ever taken an assessment with … (27 comments)
