When was the last time you checked a Notary's credentials? Last year? Never? If not, you should and it's easier than you think. In Alabama a person can access the Secretary's of State website (http://arc-sos.state.al.us/CGI/sosnot01.mbr/input) and find out if a notary public who is about to notarize adoption papers, medical release forms (or any other important legal document), is authorized to do so. The Secretary of State Inquiry System is a database that contains the name, address and commission information for all Alabama Notaries. I called Aunt Rose last week to wish her a ‘bon voyage' on her trip to France. My 84 year old aunt is always going somewhere. But this year she almost didn't make it past the ticket counter. Why?
