This quote goes out to all those Kalamazoo City Commissioners who boast of their deeds and pat each other on the back for a job well done while our homeless population grows, our tax base further erodes and a financial crisis is looming for our city. Dear Kalamazoo Citizens: Informed Public awareness is essential to establishing any community standard. The current Kalamazoo City Commissioners approve new liquor licenses as if they were handing out candy to children. One proudly even boasts that he is a drinker and not ashamed of it. This helps to explain why we have seen a new liquor license pop up on nearly every block downtown over the last 10 years. edison neighborhood association: Coalition against DDRD expansion/artificial Gentrification Kalamazoo

The City of Kalamazoo employees went into Emergency Mode on Friday, after 30 residents and property owners voiced strong opposition to the DDRD expansion at the meeting at Edison Neighborhood Association. After admitting that the guidelines would increase costs to property owners within the targetted zone, the City added an exemption to the owners of 3 or more unit rental properties. This move leaves the existing comercial property owners to bare the higher costs and other negative consequences of this artificial Gentrification.
