In the mid-1800’s Captain Charles Weber acquired part a Mexican land grant delivered by Governor Micheltorena to his business partner, Guillermo (William) Gulnac.  After his partner’s failure to settle the tract, Weber established the settlement of Tuleberg in 1847, renaming it in 1849 to Stockton after Commodore Robert F Stockton, likely in response to the political circumstances surrounding the Mexican-American war as well as Weber’s intended land grant claim.  There is no limit to the intrigue of Stockton’s early political history, but it remains considered to be the … (0 comments)

Sometimes “landmark” sites become so commonplace, that the history and challenges behind them get lost.  For many of the people living and working in Stockton, California one such place may be “Weber Point.”  
 
For the last several years the annual “asparagus festival” has found its home on the 9.7 acre site.  It has been an integral part of the community’s revitalization program surrounding the downtown area.
