hilliard: Hilliard Schools Earn Another “Excellent with Distinction” Rating - 09/25/09 02:28 AM
For the second straight year, the Ohio Department of Education has awarded the Hilliard City School District its highest rating on its annual report card for the 2008-09 school year.  Hilliard also boosted its Performance Index to 101.5 (maximum 120), its highest number since ODE began determining ratings in the late 1990's.
The ninth largest school district in the state of Ohio, Hilliard met 29 out of 30 state "indicators" and also met goals for Annual Yearly Progress and received a +/Above grade for the Value Added Measure.  All 21 district schools showed a Performance Index Score of 94 or more.

hilliard: Hilliard Bradley High School - Coming Soon! - 04/06/09 04:54 AM
Hilliard's newest high school will fully open its doors to students and staff for the 2009-10 school year, with a projected enrollment of 1,043 students in grades 9-11.  As was done before with the opening of Darby High School, high school seniors will be able to finish their studies at one school, while juniors and under will have more time and opportunity to help establish their own high school.  The expected enrollment breakout for Bradley's first year will be 335 juniors, 384 sophomores, and 324 freshman. That's a nice balance to allow students plenty of space (literally and figuratively) to grow into things.  And … (0 comments)

hilliard: Promising Outlook for the Hilliard City School District - 11/10/08 02:56 AM
Getting any school issue approved by voters in an unpredictable economy is difficult, and the odds going in to this month's election were even at best for Hilliard Schools.  Yet there were a number of things that likely help improve Hilliard area voters' perceptions, with a decidedly positive margin (and perhaps surprisingly so) when all the ballots were cast.
The resolution of the teachers' union contract was as significant as it gets, at least in my opinion.  The key issue involved, participation in health insurance costs to the district, dates back to the last contract negotiations I participated in, back in 1998.  … (0 comments)

hilliard: Hilliard Schools Levy, Teachers Contract Vote - 02/11/08 02:54 AM
Like others in the community, we were disappointed to see that prospects for a successful end to the negotiations between the school board and teachers union (Hilliard Education Association) dimmed last week when the teachers voted overwhelmingly against the board's last offer....which was to be a firm and final one, as everyone understood from various news coverage.  Sad, because no matter what side you stand on (and cliched or not), the kids are held hostage....given that the operating levy passage on March 4 becomes more problematic, and the levy covers ongoing operating funds.
Voters will usually tend toward the simplest reason to vote … (0 comments)

hilliard: Hilliard City School District – March Operating Levy Election - 01/27/08 04:50 AM
As a current member of Hilliard Schools' volunteer Citizen's Finance Committee, a former member of the school district's Board of Education, and a founding member of the political action committee CAGH (formed to foster voter approval of the new Bradley High School), I believe the upcoming March 4 operating levy vote is certainly as important as any in my memory, and perhaps more so in light of current economic news and ongoing conflict over state funding.  We've lived and worked in the Hilliard area since we moved to Ohio in 1988, and have seen first-hand the growth of the district from … (7 comments)
