The 10 Real Estate Markets That Will Thrive in 2011 – Fort Collins It's getting almost mundane to list the many, many 'Top ##’ awards that Fort Collins has been chosen to be a part of but I'll share one more with you as it reflects what many of us believe.  Fort Collins has been selected as one of the Top 10 Real Estate markets to thrive in 2011.  Honestly, we've been doing fairly well the last few years despite the downturn and are already seeing some exciting momentum building and confidence returning.

fort collins news: Bundle Up Fort Collins - It's Ski Season! - 10/26/10 10:06 AM
I have just learned that two Colorado ski resorts have just opened for the season and it’s time to get those skis tuned up and your board waxed.  Arapahoe Basin opened yesterday (Monday) and Loveland opened on Sunday.
I admit that I was not impressed with the snow flurries buffeting my face as I ran from my car last night, and my ‘sensitive’ Sadie dog felt that burying herself in blankets was the only solution to the evening.  However, our mountains were a bit more welcoming as Arapahoe received over 11 inches and Loveland saw 14 inches over the past three … (2 comments)

fort collins news: Three Community Banks Go Local, Combine - 09/07/10 03:52 PM
The Coloradoan reported today the planned merger of Loveland Bank of Commerce, Fort Collins Commerce Bank and Larimer Bank of Commerce.  These banks are all based on local ownership but controlled by Capital Bancorp Ltd, which owns 51% of the three banks.  Apparently, local owners have collectively raised 80 percent of the $14.5 million needed to buy out the majority stakeholder.  Once the banks have become wholly locally owned they will combine to provide service as one major community-owned and community-managed bank.
These banks have grown at 10-20% annually while watching other banks struggling along. The overall health of these banks … (0 comments)

fort collins news: Safest Place to Drive? Fort Collins! - 09/02/10 09:17 AM
Despite our occasionally ‘adventurous’ winter road conditions, Fort Collins has been named the NUMBER ONE city in America for ‘Best Drivers’.  Allstate Insurance Company compiles data to give honor to the top cities in terms of car collision frequency, road conditions and infrastructure in it’s second annual “America’s Safest Driving City” report.  According to the report, the average Fort Collins driver experiences an auto collision every 14.5 years, about 30% less than the national average.

Fort Collins Mayor Doug Hutchinson credits the people of Fort Collins.  He is quoted in the press release as saying "Becoming America's Safest Driving City … (4 comments)

fort collins news: Lory Park Fees to Rise - 08/27/10 07:29 AM
Local residents take note - Lory State Park, as part of the Colorado State Parks System, will see it's entrance fees rise this year if a new proposal is approved this September.  The fee hike will only affect day passes which will now cost $7 instead of $6 and is expected to generate an additional $1.3 million dollars for the budget-beleaguered state. It doesn't seem that this increase would have a significant impact on residents as most of us simply purchase the annual pass ($60) each year and I, for one, feel it is money well spent.  Lory State Park features fantastic … (0 comments)

fort collins news: Pack2School 2010 - Supporting Underpriviledged Kids - 08/13/10 05:02 AM
I'm so proud to be a volunteer and supporter of this years Pack2School Program.  This wonderful program provides underpriviledged kids with the opportunity to pay $5 to 'shop' for and fill their backpacks with notebooks, binders and other supplies of their choice.  The program follows the supply lists provided for each school and grade level to allow students to select everything that they need to start the year off right!
The event runs today and tomorrow at the North Aztlan Center at 112 E. Willow Street, Fort Collins.  Click here for more information or to donate!

fort collins news: New Fort Collins Restaurant - Snooze, an AM eatery! - 08/10/10 12:00 PM

This new breakfast diner, affectionately titled 'an A.M. eatery' redefines what qualifies as breakfast and does so with a unique (and tasty) style.
As far as Fort Collins restaurants go, we have no lack of excellent breakfast options from drool-inducing Cajun at Lucille's to all-natural organic options at Avogadros Number or light and fresh crepes at La Creperie and I wondered if there was room for another contender.
But this devil's advocate is now happily 'eating' her previously unsupportive words as Fort Collins is clearly embracing this offbeat new eatery.
This Sunday I biked into town to join the rest … (1 comments)

fort collins news: Fort Collins Airport Expanding Flights - Fly Direct to Phoenix - 08/10/10 04:14 AM
It's been another exciting news week for our local Fort Collins/Loveland Regional Airport as it will soon announce that Allegiant Air will add twice weekly flights to Phoenix, Arixona.  The official announcement is expected during a scheduled press conference this Wednesday at 10 a.m. where Fort Collins Mayor Doug Hutchinson, Loveland Mayor Cecil Gutierrez, City Council members and the state aeronautics director are all expected to attend.
Allegiant Air began servicing the Fort Collins/Loveland Municipal Airport in 2003 with flights direct from Fort Collins to Las Vegas and is reported to have served 23,000 travelers last year alone.
This is a wonderful option … (1 comments)

fort collins news: DIA Flights from Fort Collins? AWESOME! - 07/31/10 11:44 AM
Fort Collins Flyers - TAKE NOTE!
There is a new 'Wingless Flight' program in the works to allow DIA flyers to check in at our local Fort Collins Airport and then take a bus directly to the secured area of DIA.  This would allow locals to skip long waits at DIA security check-in, remove a substantial number of commuters from i-25 and save us all a small fortune in gas, toll and parking fees.  It would also allow our substantial biking population to get to the airport without the struggle of finding rideshare or shuttle options.
It's still in the initial … (5 comments)
