Few people who know me well would describe me as overly social. I am, in my non virtual life, an introvert of sorts. I tend not to enjoy small talk, in fact, it drives me crazy. I will rarely start a conversation with a stranger or even with people I know, and I wear a defensive armor of sorts whenever I am on an airplane, train or bus – a book of some kind that I may have no interest in reading, but I carry it with me as a signal that I am un-approachable. Fireworks broke out these last few weeks with Chris Smith (Inman News Evangelist) publishing his Real Estate is no longer a relationship business piece. As expected, not only did it start a conversation, but resulted in a few rebuttal posts, (which are linked to at the end of this blog), and a few comments that were downright nasty. I was paying attention to the conversation as it developed, from the sidelines, mostly, and here are my takeaways, as a consumer of any good or service, not just real estate. No matter how many gurus, coaches, fellow bloggers or real estate agents tell you that you must. The recent featured post by Jermey Blanton prompted this post (and one of only two dissenting comments), so for those of you who missed it – go read it. The gist, if I may, amounts to advice to just jump in and start outputting content, the more crap you write, the better you’ll get, and someone human or bot is bound to find you eventually.
