riviera maya real estate: Can I make money with my vacation property? - 07/20/10 08:48 AM

Many people are considering buying a second or vacation home in Mexico and only want to spend a few weeks or part of the year in it.  The financial opportunity exists to make enough rental income to cover the property's costs.  A purely hands-off rental investment property is extremely desirable.  You can generate income while a property in the Riviera Maya appreciates in value.  Certainly not the case now, or in the near future, anywhere in the US.  How can this be accomplished?

The first factor to consider is tourism figures.  The Riviera Maya, along the beautiful Caribbean coast, … (0 comments)

riviera maya real estate: International Monetary Fund Raises Growth Forecast for Mexico - 07/19/10 06:36 AM

The International Monetary Fund (IMF), the powerful organization that oversees the global financial system, significantly raised its economic forecast for Mexico this month and in fact, warned that the economy South of the Border may be in danger of “overheating”.

Latin America’s second largest economy is racing out of the recession at a 4.5% growth rate, faster than the U.S. and a full three points higher than previous IMF predictions.  International capital is now flowing faster into Mexico as this emerging market is accelerating.  Lower debt and sound economic fundamentals are getting the attention of individual and institutional … (0 comments)

On Sunday, when the final whistle blew, thousands of Mexicans took to the streets and converged on Plaza de Cibeles in the trendy Roma Norte district of Mexico City.  They blew their vuvuzelas (stadium horns), banged drums, and marched around the squares fountain, singing and chanting.

The Cibeles monument and fountain in Mexico City is an exact replica of the monument by the same name, found in the Spanish capital of Madrid.  This is the sacred place where Spain’s fans traditionally gather to celebrate major soccer victories.  Some believe the Cibeles in Mexico was erected so that Mexicans could … (0 comments)

riviera maya real estate: Investing in the Antithesis of Wall Street - 07/06/10 01:37 PM

The New York Times published a article last week that should not come as a surprise to workers, investors, or anyone looking to retire.  Apparently, Wall Street firms and most notably private equity firms have too much money to invest and not enough time to invest it.  Private equity firms typically tie up investors' money for around 10 years but need to invest the money within the first 3 to 5 years of a fund's or business's life.  If the firms are not able to find a suitable business/fund to invest their clients money in, they are supposed to return … (0 comments)

riviera maya real estate: Bloomberg: Miami Faces 80% Chance of Being Hit By BP Oil Spill - 07/05/10 02:43 AM

Bloomberg reported yesterday that Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Palm Beach and the Florida Keys face a 61-80 percent chance of the BP’s tar balls reaching their popular beaches and precious real estate.  They face a greater probability of being affected because the black oil has entered the Gulf’s loop current which snakes eastward and around the tip of Florida.  If the nasty tar balls arrive on the billion dollar beaches of Miami, Palm Beach and Ft. Lauderdale, the real estate market and coastal Florida economy could face a catastrophe.

The real estate market in many places along the Gulf and … (0 comments)

In 1985, life expectancy for Mexicans was only 68 years.  By 1990, it had jumped to 69, by 1995 it had leaped to 70 and by 2010 it sprinted to 77.8 years, a whopping 8 years, just 4 years shy of the Japanese, the oldest living people on the planet.  The simple fact is that in  2010, people in Mexico now live an average of 14.8 years longer. It’s inconceivable.  An oil spill of epic, almost biblical proportions has dumped 19,000 barrels of crude oil a day into the Gulf of Mexico for 40 straight days, ballooning from only 40 miles across, to now spanning some 3,400 square miles, threatening the already frail Florida real estate market.  BP’s black monster now sits only 9 miles off Florida’s panhandle.

Unbelievably, there is no end in sight … (0 comments)
