real estate photography: Atlanta Real Estate Photographer to Speak at the 2012 RESA Convention in Las Vegas
- 11/15/11 09:07 AM
Greetings Home Stagers and Interior Designers far and wide! As many of you know the 2012 RESA convention is right around the corner. I will be speaking on Feb. 2nd on a topic I have come to know very well in the past few years and that is real estate and interiors photography. I realize that this is somewhat of a broad topic and there is no way we will cover it all. With that in mind, I would really like to focus on a few key ideas that matter most to home stagers across the country. So, I am coming (13 comments)
real estate photography: Why are you NOT using a Professional Photographer?
- 12/15/10 05:18 PM
I have to admit, I'm really enjoying the attention that professional photography and video have been getting as the real estate industry continues to make the shift toward becoming more and more of an online marketplace. In 2010 alone I have been contacted by more agents about doing Atlanta Real Estate Photography than in my last 5 years in the business. Despite this trend, it appears that the overwhelming majority of agents, home stagers and landlords (in my area anyway...) are still not working with a professional photographer. I have my suspicions why, but I would like to hear what the (160 comments)
real estate photography: Tips to Improve Your Listing Photos, Part 6 - Understanding Focal Length
- 12/12/10 07:04 PM
As a Marietta, GA real estate agent specializing in Atlanta real estate photography, I had to learn quite a few lessons on my way to competence. Even though I was a decent Atlanta photographer, or so I thought, it didn't take long to realize that taking pictures of homes came with its own set of unique challenges. This blog series is written with the amateur photographer in mind. Whether you are a real estate agent, home stager, seller or just interested in taking better pictures of homes, this blog series is for you.

real estate photography: How to Hire a Real Estate Photographer
- 12/01/10 02:59 PM
As both a Real Estate Agent and a Atlanta Real Estate Photographer, I know how important great images are in a marketplace in which 90% of Buyers are online. The internet has empowered Buyers and Sellers with so much information that some circles believe that the days of the "Full Service Real Estate Agent" are numbered. I, on the other hand, believe that the agents role in helping people buy and sell homes is simply evolving rather than diminishing all together. Regardless of our future, one area that every listing agent should address now is the quality of the media they use to market homes (21 comments)
real estate photography: I Never Thought That You Could Do That with a Pumpkin
- 10/31/10 11:08 AM
Re-Blog of an excellent find by Tim Maitski. This pumpkin carver has truly mastered his art. I love seeing people take rather mundane activities and create something epic out of. And epic is probably an understatement for how good this guy really is. In a way, that is what I shoot for in my Real Estate Photography business. As an Atlanta Real Estate Photographer in Marietta, GA I often run across homes that are, for lack of a better term, nothing special. I see this all the time with foreclosures in Marietta, Short Sales in Marietta and even Luxury homes in (5 comments)
real estate photography: Night Photography - North Georgia State Fair
- 10/14/10 09:22 AM
October is one of our favorite months living in Marietta, Georgia. You can open up all the windows, the Fall colors are beautiful and of course there are the festivities. The first week of October marks our annual trip to the North Georgia State Fair ( http://www.northgeorgiastatefair.com/) at Jim R. Miller Park in Marietta, GA. This was the first time I brought my camera and my 5 year old daughter. Needless to say, we spent too much time on the rides and not enough time taking pictures. That's ok, if there was ever a time to put work aside it was then. Here are a few of the shots (12 comments)

real estate photography: What's your color IQ score?
- 09/13/10 04:33 PM
As an Atlanta Real Estate Photographer and listing agent in Marietta, GA, its important that the photos I produce display accurate colors. Photography is a big part of our unique value proposition and whether I'm shooting for my own listing or for another agent I strive to always make sure the colors and tones are spot on. So how do I know if the colors in a particular scene are accurate or not? For starters, I rely heavily on editing software to help with White Balance. I also use a calibrated monitor and from time to time a grey card or other make (12 comments)
We just listed a one-of-a-kind 4 bed/ 3.5 Bath Traditional Home in Marietta, GA and I'm really excited about this one. It's located in an active Swim/Tennis Community in Cobb County Georgia called Hardage Farm. This established neighborhood has homes of various finishes and styles, from Brick Front, Three-Sided Brick, Stone and Stucco exteriors with floor plans ranging from Ranch, European, Craftsman and Custom Built. One of the best features (4 comments)
Every now and then I get an opportunity to photograph truly unique and special properties. I have to say this is one of the most amazing, picturesque tracts of land I have seen anywhere near metro Atlanta. It reminds me a lot of the topography where I'm from outside of Knoxville, TN. This is the type of property that a photographer could literally spend all day shooting and still want to come back for more. Those clouds that look so cool eventually (2 comments)
This shoot was of a very impressive remodel just outside Atlanta, GA. I was referred to Kristen by Kathy Nielsen, who did a wonderful job staging this home. I love photographing staged homes, especially when the stager is talented. It makes my job so much easier. Needless to say, the remodeling work and staging made for a very photogenic property. Aside from my normal MO, I got to use my PAP rig and do some light painting. Both of these techniques provide (6 comments)
This project was a real pleasure to shoot. This is a custom built home in the Little Bear community in Canton, GA. The owner spared no expense in making this a very unique and appealing home. This was a really private lot in a developing community and a good example of why people move to this area. We arrived at about noon so I knew there were going to be some challenges as far (7 comments)
I have to admit, I have had it pretty easy lately. All the homes I've photographed in the last couple months have all been either occupied or staged. Having furniture and decor to work with makes a photographer's job a little easier because there are several focal points to compose around. When photographing vacant properties the I try to resist going into 'documentation mode' and look for architectural lines and features that make for an interesting image. This home was vacant and quite a change of pace from my last few (2 comments)
real estate photography: Are you protecting Trade Secrets?
- 07/30/10 04:41 AM
I wrote a post over in the PFRE group on Flickr a couple of weeks ago that went something like this: "I've noticed in a few threads here people make mention of a photographer or photography company not wanting to reveal to another photog or even upandcomer in their own company how they approach a shoot in fear of giving away 'trade secrets'. Personally, I don't really understand this mentality as this kind of work requires much more than just the knowledge of how one arrives at a particular result. I'm reminded of an epiphany I had as a kid learning (5 comments)
