Every morning, for the last 2 weeks, I get up at 5:25 am to take my daughter for her cross country practice at Lacy Park.   I am not much of a morning person, but I am beginning to look forward to greeting the day in the beauty of this hidden park.
I say hidden because even though Lacy Park is located in San Marino, California, for the most part, only the residents of San Marino truly know about it.  Even residents of Lacy Park's next door neighbors - Pasadena, San Gabriel and Alhambra are sometimes not aware of it's existence.

Yes... it's a Tradition for my family and friends to celebrate our country's birthday at Lacy Park on 4th of July!
Each year, I wake up early in the morning, grab a couple of blankets, run to Starbucks (hard as I try and after many spills, I still can't resist going to Starbucks), drive over to Lacy Park and join a slew of people waiting for the gates to open.  Most of the time, I only make this trip once that morning.  Although, I have to admit, on a few occasions, I had to go back home and come back.  Why?  … (2 comments)

Well... I have to say that this has been one of the most awaited weekends for my kids.  A couple of events were taking place at Lacy Park in San Marino this weekend:  San Marino Boy Scouts Lacy Campout and Award Ceremony, Pop Concert by the wonderful Huntington Middle School Choir and the Firemen's Breakfast!!!
In this post, I wanted to highlight our Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.

It's the time of year my kids are looking forward to... Yes!  It's Carver Carnival time! 
Every year, Carver has a carnival the day before mother's day and every year, for the last 7 years, my kids and I have attended. 
This year, I'll be helping out in the Chinese Booth, while the kidlets check out the new Petting Zoo, book nook, goldfish catch, the jail house, and of course the infamous CAKE WALK, amongst others.

San Marino has two award winning, blue ribbon elementary schools - Carver Elementary and Valentine Elementary.
Registration for kindergarten and 1st grade (first time students only) is scheduled for Wednesday, March 21, 2007, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon.  It will be held at Carver School's Scrim Auditorium. 
If you miss this session, not to worry - you'll be able to register your munchkin by appointment only after April 9th.

Most of us that have kids attending award winning San Marino Schools know how lucky we are.  The teachers are exceptional.  The curriculum is superb.  The schools measure at the top of all Southern California schools.  And, the parent involvement is unparalleled!
Since 1991, our schools have relied on stable local funding provided by our school parcel tax.  These funds help keep class sizes small, retain teachers, keep libraries open and fund essential programs.  This fuinding is set to expire in June.
