Will Updating Half of My Long Island NY Home Hurt the Other Half? It really depends upon which half you update and which half you leave alone. If you update the kitchen, freshly paint the other rooms, rip up carpeting and finish the hardwood floors underneath but leave the basement alone, then no. The style of home matters as well. A home that flows nicely from room to room and all on one level can make a difference compared to a home that has multiple levels.
