Silver Lake Farmers Market Tuesdays & Saturdays

Visiting a farmers market for a leisurely stroll, a quick lunch or shopping for dinner is very popular.  There are too many to list in the Los Angeles area and you may already have a favorite close to home.

Why not add the Silver Lake Farmers Market to your list of markets to visit. Charming and convenient (about one block long) the Silver Lake Farmers Market offers its customers the staples of every farmers market: fresh fruit and veggies (such as tomatoes, strawberries, and leafy greens), a couple of hot food stands, a few racks of … (2 comments)

Veterans: Retiring in Spokane, Washington is a good idea.

Active veterans and active seniors are all about new experiences, volunteering and staying busy and    retirees give to their communities with their time and talent.     Spokane is affordable, and friendly, and its citizens enjoy clean air, a relaxed lifestyle and easy access to recreation.

The VA Medical Center may be a major consideration for putting down roots in Spokane. It is conveniently located and it   provides quality health care services to veterans.   Resources are also provided at the Spokane Valley Veterans Outreach Center.

SPOKANE HOOPFEST 2018 COMING SOON
Hoopfest, one of Spokane's most exciting and well attended outdoor events, is the largest 3-on-3 basketball tournament on THE PLANET  according to its official website, and nearly 6000 teams register each year to compete. Cities and towns around the nation model similar street ball events but Spokane has them all beat. The games take place on the city streets right in the heart of the downtown.
Teams of four players with creative names (such as Rock Lobsters)  and costumes (such as tie-dye) meet streetside next to more serious players and compete for prizes and a chance to play in … (3 comments)

Antiques Roadshow Came and Went

Anticipation was half the fun surrounding a visit to Spokane by  Antiques Roadshow.  Our tickets arrived on schedule along with instructions and tips to make the experience THE BEST.

Volunteers, roadshow employees, appraisers, convention center workers all pulled together to keep attendees moving along and headed in the right direction.  The event was very, very  well organized.  I guess after 20 seasons, these folks should know exactly how to move and manage a crowd.

My wife and I didn't fund our retirement with a valuable painting from an obscure and rare artist nor did we even … (3 comments)

jack tenold home loan specialist: Vancouver, WA homebuyers can save money - 11/04/14 11:11 PM
Vancouver, WA home buyers can save money.
It is a SHAME to make a borrower pay for a re-inspection of their home just because a CO alarm has not been installed.  Safety is a key component of an appraisal.   Carbon Monoxide Alarms & the Law in Washington State posted by the City of Vancouver gives the exact requirements.  "The seller is required to equip the residence with CO alarms before any other person legally occupies the home."   Your realtor should be on top of this but a home FSBO may not be.
Appraisal companies charge in the neighborhood of $150 to re-inspect so I have decided … (1 comments)

Choosing a Reverse Mortgage Specialist in Vancouver, WA.

Before you sign reverse mortgage documents there are important things to
consider when choosing a mortgage loan officer to assist you with a senior home loan.   There are  fewer “reverse mortgage specialists” than you think and the list does not include Fred Thompson, Robert Wagner or the Fonz.  Referrals from satisfied Reverse Mortgage holders is always comforting, but you may not have a referral.
Choosing a loan officer with no reverse mortgage experience is similar to ordering fast food.  Yep, they will answer your questions, they will take your order and they will deliver it.   But do they follow up?  Do … (0 comments)

Carbon monoxide, the silent killer.  Do you have a CO detector in your Spokane WA home?
The chemical symbol  for carbon monoxide is CO.
The chemical nickname is "silent killer" and it is odorless, colorless and tasteless.
A CO detector is an alert system (similar but different from a smoke alarm) which warns you about the presence of carbon monoxide should it reach a dangerous level.    Don't confuse smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms -- they warn you of different dangers with audible alerts.  One isn't better than the other and they don't overlap in terms of performance.  Every home … (1 comments)

My spring cleaning and recycling is done.
We all have too much stuff.  George Carlin's You Tube Video about "stuff" is classic.  So enough is enough and years have passed and it was time to do the dirty and dreaded task of cleaning out the storage unit.  After all, why am I paying for storing my stuff?  I called up the shredding company and a husky young man in a BIG truck met me at my storage unit and commenced my spring cleaning.  After one hour or so, the contents of 50+ boxes were literally and forever ripped to shreds!  Yes!
Now, the problem became what to do with the boxes. I wouldn't even … (1 comments)

Street Music Week Spokane Washington.                                            Another fun "happening" in Spokane this week.  In betweeen Bloomsday and Hoopfest comes Street Music Week.  Just what is Street Music Week?  Entertainers and musicians in the area are invited to participate and entertain in the Spokane downtown core during the second week in June.  And this year the Garland District was added.     The purpose, aside from entertainment, is to raise money. The generous donations from participants and  viewers go to support 2nd Harvest food bank.  Last year Spokane Street Music raised a whopping $12,000 from the generous folks who came by to listen … (0 comments)
