Going the distance 7.46 km Bloomsday Spokane

Entries are pouring in for one of Spokane's most popular events:  Lilac Bloomsday Run. Race Number 42 is  Sunday, May 6th.

Enjoying my status as a perennial (an ever diminishing number of runners who have participated in each and every Bloomsday) motivates me to continue taking part in Bloomsday.  Last year there were 88 of us.  Perennials are rewarded with a "special" T-shirt each year and now instead of reading "I've run them all" they read "I've run  done them all".  The organizers understand the demographics of this group.  My estimate is the perennials range in age from over 42 to over 90.

spokane events: SPOKANE HOOPFEST 2018 COMING SOON - 06/08/15 10:25 AM
SPOKANE HOOPFEST 2018 COMING SOON
Hoopfest, one of Spokane's most exciting and well attended outdoor events, is the largest 3-on-3 basketball tournament on THE PLANET  according to its official website, and nearly 6000 teams register each year to compete. Cities and towns around the nation model similar street ball events but Spokane has them all beat. The games take place on the city streets right in the heart of the downtown.
Teams of four players with creative names (such as Rock Lobsters)  and costumes (such as tie-dye) meet streetside next to more serious players and compete for prizes and a chance to play in … (3 comments)

spokane events: Antiques Roadshow Came and Went - 06/08/15 08:05 AM
Antiques Roadshow Came and Went

Anticipation was half the fun surrounding a visit to Spokane by  Antiques Roadshow.  Our tickets arrived on schedule along with instructions and tips to make the experience THE BEST.

Volunteers, roadshow employees, appraisers, convention center workers all pulled together to keep attendees moving along and headed in the right direction.  The event was very, very  well organized.  I guess after 20 seasons, these folks should know exactly how to move and manage a crowd.

My wife and I didn't fund our retirement with a valuable painting from an obscure and rare artist nor did we even … (3 comments)

Popular Spokane RV show and sale starts tomorrow

Preparations are complete for the annual Inland NW RV show!  Those RV's are really classy - truly comfortable homes on wheels.  Unfortunately you can't get a reverse mortgage on them (color me blue)  but no mortgage lender will lend on something with wheels and an engine.....even if you are going to make it your permanent residence. For financing options talk to your local credit union.
Oh well...visit the show and have a good time.  I think they are better than tiny homes in so many ways.

spokane events: SPOKANE HOOPFEST 2011 ON THE HORIZON- - 06/07/11 08:19 AM

Spokane Hoopfest 2011 is June 25 and 26.
If you have never participated or observed Hoopfest, Spokane's   annual sports bonanza, be sure it's on your "bucket" list.
Nearly 7000 teams have registered this year to compete in the 3-on-3 basketball tournament occuring on Spokane's city center streets.  The games are fast and furious.  (Winners are teams who earn 20 points first or whoever is ahead when the alotted 20 minute game clock stops).
The spoils for the winners INCLUDE the ubiquitous T-shirt and applause from fans. A wide variety of  charities benefit from Hoopfest including Special Olympics, the … (3 comments)

Today the Lilac Bloomsday Association buys me lunch along with the other perennials.
If you have not observed a Lilac Bloomsday Run (or participated in one) you really owe it to yourself to join in the fun.  This is the biggest timed road race in the United States.Yes, there's a nice crowd for Bay to Breakers. The only thing is, no one knows who is actually … (3 comments)
