5 course dinner recreates Titanic's last supper

Spokane's beautiful and historic Davenport Hotel created a special menu as a tie-in to the current Titanic exhibit (complete with iceberg)  at Spokane's MAC (Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture). The exhibit and special menu are available through May 20th.

Since the Davenport never fails to serve fabulous food in their Palm Court Grill and the MAC always provides residents and visitors with too-good-to-miss exhibits both venues are delightful.  This special combo sounds like a fun date night experience and a 20 minute walk wearing a good pair of shoes.

The musum experience begins with a boarding pass complete with passenger name, class, … (6 comments)

Spokane - birthplace of Father's Day

Situated on the corner of a lower southhill home is a monument for all passersby to stop and study.  A bit difficult to read, the granite marker provides a rather lengthy discription of the history leading to the declaration of Father's Day across the nation as the third Sunday in June.  The details can be read at Wikipedia and viewed on Youtube. Thanks go to Sonora Smart Dodd the "Mother of Father's Day".

The Spokane home (built in 1913) where Sonora Smart lived as a child, displays three commemorative plaques.  She and her 5 siblings were raised in this home by a single father so she had many reasons … (4 comments)

spokane wa: Championship Game Tonight - 04/03/17 02:57 PM
Championship Game Tonight!

Back when I was in law school at Gonzaga, I would be able to walk over after class and take a seat anywhere in the gym to watch the Zags play. Back then they were just happy to have someone there.

Today, what a change! The Zags are not playing today in their beautiful McCarthy Athletic Center.

Tonight they are on basketball's biggest stage: The NCAA Finals in Glendale, Arizona, where over 77,000 fans will watch the Gonzaga Bulldogs take on the University of North Carolina Tar Heels.

Good luck to both teams, but you know, GO ZAGS!

Cities and towns around the nation model similar street ball events but Spokane has them all beat. The games take place on the city streets right in the heart of the downtown.
Teams of four players with creative names (such as Rock Lobsters)  and costumes (such as tie-dye) meet streetside next to more serious players and compete for prizes and a chance to play in … (3 comments)

Important News: New Credit Policies to Help Consumers

Good news arrived in the Business Section of my morning paper, The Spokesman Review, via LA Times Reporter, Jim Puzzanghera.  Rather than summarize the content of the article
Credit-reporting firms to overhauI process for fixing errors,
I prefer to provide the link:
 http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-credit-reporting-changes-20150310-story.html
Experion, TransUnion and Equifax are the largest credit-reporting companies agreeing to changes which are of enormous benefit to consumers. Who doesn't know from personal (or professional experience or someone you know) about a credit report problem that has interferred with getting a credit card, a home loan or … (2 comments)

No jeans or pedal pushers allowed - High School Memories

Visiting my alma mater, Lewis and Clark High School, Spokane, Washington,  and attending all the events scheduled for my 50th High School Reunion was undoubtedly the best event of the year.  I may change my mind after the Elton John concert in a couple of  weeks but for now, WOW!!!!!
Graduates congregated at the golf course, at grade school parties and the memorial.  We partied hardy at the Davenport Hotel enjoying dinner, drinks and dancing.  Three hundred thirty-three people attended. Bet you can't beat that number at your … (2 comments)

spokane wa: Gonzaga #1 WCC Basketball Champions - 03/06/13 08:58 AM

Gonzaga #1 WCC Basketball Champions!   What a season!  It's been great  fun watching Gonzaga Basketball and I can’t wait for the games to begin in Las Vegas. Basketball fever and March Madness is a rite of spring in Spokane and this year the Bulldogs have done us proud!  It takes good recruiting, good coaching, and a deep bench to achieve such honors.  My hat is off to all who participated.
This is the first time that a college in the state of Washington has ranked number one in the nation.  On top of that, player, Kelly Olynyk, has been … (1 comments)

spokane wa: Winter in Spokane, Washington - 01/08/13 09:04 AM

Winter in Spokane, Washington probably isn't that different from many other places in January.  However this is how it looked yesterday morning (while I was shoveling my driveway).  It's quite peaceful and beautiful...don't you think?
The headline which appeared in The Spokesman-Review read "Winter delivers its first big punch".  Over 6 inches of snow was reported. It was the perfect storm for building a snowman in Spokane, Washington.
