Wow,Just had another reality check while buying gasoline for my truck.While i was filling my tank, I noticed that the man in the next pump was having trouble paying with his credit card.The long story short was that his only income is his monthly disability check wouldn't come for three days and he must be out of cash.This man served our country in Vietnam ,so i offered him my credit card and put 40.00 dollars in his car.He has a small car so i am sure he will have enough gas for the rest of the week.He thanked me and said … (5 comments)

Spring is right around the corner and we all will be doing our spring cleaning.I started to clean,and came across several old cell phones.The big question was ,what do we do with the old ones.Being green ,disposing them in the trash wasn't an option so I went on line and found that Sprint.com/reuse will connect you too a web site that you can send the old phones to. While attending a local sporting event earlier this evening i noticed that a group of young kids were all upset about the fact that she had locked her keys in the car and to make matters worse has started to rain and it looked like these these kids were new drivers.I asked her if i could help,as I carry some lock picking tools.She said that no one had triple A and they couldn't afford a locksmith so i went to my vehicle and returned with my trusty master key?lock pick and was able to open her car.This wasn't a big deal but it did save a … (5 comments)

While shopping the other day ,I was stopped by a local Realtor from a fellow agency and he wanted to talk about a person I had referred to him about renting a home.We do not deal in rentals so i tend to not get involved in rentals.He wanted to thank me for the excelant tenant and that it was a win win situation for him as this tenant now does maintenance for him and is able to save on his rent.I thanked him for the nice words and left the store.I happened to run into the tenant of that property and … (4 comments)

While most of us are going about our winter business,I noticed a flier posted at our local food bank which I donate too,was now asking for anyone with old but wearable boots and winter socks to please donate them also.I was surprised at the old trusty warm boots that i had lying around.I also asked a few of my former co workers to donate also.We were able to come up with a dozen pair of warm boots for the homeless vets that stay at the Salem mission.Somethingas simple as donating these items will help a less fortunate man keep walking with safe … (2 comments)

While in the midst of a record breaking winter with snow everywhere and a severe rain storm flooding the streets this morning, an old but necessary chore was needed.I have just returned from several hours of cleaning ice from storm drains and catch basins.There is a few spots in our town that flood and make the road impassable.The ice was broken up and cleared away and at the same timewe were digging out those basins we also cleaned hydrants that were still snowed in.That was my super way of celebrating the big game and giving back at the same time.Don't forget to clean the hydrants near … (0 comments)

This past weekend saw our newly constructed towns skating rink full of action.We Had a benefit the rink tournament that saw 18 teams play each other.the weather was in the teens and after all was said and done we raised several thousand dollars to help in the upkeep of our new outdoor rink that is open to the public and is an official sized hockey rink.A group of girl scouts sold hot coffee and donuts and they too made almost two hundred dollars for the cause.We worked long into the night in the frigid weather to get the ice ready and … (1 comments)

We are still digging out from a real Northeast blizzard and a plow truck is worth its weight in gold.I was working with a friend in the height of the storm plowing driveways.The storm had left over 18 inches and the plow route completed.We were heading home.I noticed several older people trying to shovel out their driveways,we told them to move and in a matter if two minutes of out time completed thetask of shoveling the walk way.They attempted to pay us but no money can buy the looks on the faces of people that see mountains of snow disappear.We continues … (3 comments)

In our seacoast town,boat storage is at a premium and in one neighborhood there is a lady who is unable to work and the only income she could get was to rent spaces out in her yard for the boats.The onl;y problem was that the home sat in a single residence zone.This lady has been renting boat storage for years and no one had ever complained until now.A neighbor just moved into the general area and didn't like the boats parked in the yard and complained to the building dept.They promptly shut the boat yard down as it didn't have any … (3 comments)

While most of the east coast is getting battered with its first winter blizzard,i was snug as a bug enjoying the after glow of a wonderful holiday.I received a call from a friend who is a full time lobsterman and fishes all year long.He had to move his boat due to the storm and with very heavy seas and wind driven snow, this was not to be a fun job.We rowed out to his boat and attempted to start her up.The boat would not kick over so we had no other option but to set out two storm anchors.Thank goodness we had an … (4 comments)

I happened to be in line a a local store and upon leaving I ran in to an old acquaintance who introduced me to his son in law.This man had a hip replacement at the age of 75 and as part of his therapy ,he took up cycling around town.As a very avid bike rider and one who never rides without his helmet I was thrilled to see a 75 year old man biking.He remembered our talks and I noticed that he was crying.His son in law informed me that CAPTs wife of 60 years had just passed away this morning … (5 comments)

We have a local mechanic who is over worked and never seems to take time off for himself. I went to use his Rest room several months ago and as we Realtors know, a good bathroom is a happy one! We live in a small town that is on that horrible list of having a young soldier killed in the Gulf.Afghanistan War.I ran into this mans widow and son on veterans day at our Veterans day services and her son Chris in formed me that he was going into the service just like his Dad.His dad was killed when his m/v ran over an IED.Cris was so strong that he lasted several weeks before he died of his awful wounds.Asa veteran myself,I looked at this young man who was following in his dads footsteps even if it means paying the Ultimate sacrifice.I have known … (3 comments)

I was asked the other day if i would be available to maybe give some Senior citizens a ride to the polls to vote.This shouldn't be hard at all,so i thought.I will not get into politics but it was rather funny as i was driving these Seniors to the polls they thought I was provided by their affiliated political party.I said that I had just been asked by the local council on Aging and that it appeared we were in different political camps.
