You don't have to be a spring chick to live in accessible home. But if you are 50+ you may want to do some spcial planning in that regard. One of our investor friends mentioned the benefits of a condo that is easily accessible (elevator) and is close to downtown amenities as being the "perfect" answer to aging-in-place. We are happy to refer you to specialists in this market.
Plan for it. This eBooklet can inspire stakeholders- especially "Post-50-People and "boomers" and their families to plan ahead for sustainable excellence, and live full lives in a home (4 comments)
When considering NC Mountain homes, would you be attracted to an age-friendly environment? As an older adult, I have come to appreciate being in "healthy-built" and natural surroundings. But how does that translate in terms of the "look and feel" of the place?
Design emphasis: Close-to-nature... where you can feel a refreshing connection with the flora, fauna and land. Many mountain homes in the Asheville area are situated on sites thoughtfully designed to maximize views. And you can explore trails that take you to conservation areas where the sound of waterfalls call you. Best of (1 comments)
I determined to major in Interior Design at the University of Miami a thousand years ago. (I’m smiling.) Along the way, I discovered amazing homes, such as those here in North Asheville, and chose instead to become a real estate broker and BIC. Still, that background in interior design continues to have advantages in terms of being able to communicate a particular message or intention. For example, I have been known to place docent cards around special design features in sellers homes we have represented.
Communicating effectively to produce results is important to brokers, buyers, seller, (1 comments)

Any number of our clients are moving onward in their lives – and, as older adults, possibly downsizing. Caring for Clients as They Move Onward is Important. Of necessity, we have learned to be attentive to specific needs of these clients. In fact, many of our clients - (past and present)- enjoy" sitting down at the kitchen table" with us in a relaxed atmosphere. We all feel comfortable that way. What's up for discussion? Moving Onward Clients look to real estate professionals to research the current market value of their homes. They want to learn about expectations- a) timing and b) market temperature – information that is important to (2 comments)
Considering selling your home? if so, you may also want to consider coordinating a few simple projects.look for those that can add value to your home. Start with Curb Appeal – a little landscaping can go a long way. Manicure your front yard.Trim overgrown bushes. Arrange fresh mulch. And think about orchestrating affordability – e.g. smaller-sized trees in places where they will offer future shade could be a wise investment. ( As you know, shade can reduce cooling costs and that is a great selling point.)

Asheville Real Estate Journal: Renewable Energy : Renewable Energy Asheville Style (2)
As noted in Part (1), when considering the pros and cons of “aging in place” you have powerful possibilities when it comes to energizing your home and getting around it with comfort. Customer groups are looking to " lift some of the technical and financial restrictions on distributed generation in North Carolina,” according to utilities reporter, Julia Pyper. This includes “ re-authorizing PACE loans, improving customer access to their energy usage data and lifting the ban on third-party sales arrangements.” There's light dawning on Asheville's beautiful (1 comments)
Asheville Real Estate Journal -FUTURE PLANNING-Family ties are shaping the housing market. (Part 2)
Looking down the road (photo) you may notice that family ties are impacting the housing market. More and more these days, it seems attractive to stay in a home re-imagined. However, people do move from their family homes- possibly trading up or down –literally- (the very popular open space design features a ground floor master suite.) Of course, the building industry is taking note of the growing demand for accessible living features as are forward-thinking real estate professionals who keep (2 comments)
I asked an American Hero and Medevac Pilot now on wheels what he was seeking in a comfortable home here in Asheville- “ Are YOU up for a 'stair-free delight'?” We had to laugh at the euphemism. But, in truth, planning a home that is both functional and aesthetically-pleasing is not really a laughing matter. Think about it: As you envision your life 10, 20, 30 or more years down the road- would getting around your own home easily be on your list of priorities? Having all your basic amenities- master suite and (0 comments)
