asheville creative retirement: Holiday Season Musings - 11/25/17 09:05 AM
HOLIDAY SEASON MUSINGS on a gorgeous, crisp, almost-winter day here in Asheville, N.C.

A certain thrill is in the air and a metaphor born with the revelation of a “derived atomic model” as per:    "An image of the thin glassy film between two silicon nitride grains revealing individual lanthanum atoms attached to the grain surfaces... [ where a] derived atomic model is superimposed...."

This breakthrough also might be an “atomic model”  for a great burst of human creativity.  Surely,  scientists  making strides in the ceramics industry, are not the only creative people around. How about YOU?
There is genius across all fields … (2 comments)

asheville creative retirement: Family ties are shaping the housing market. (Part 1) - 11/25/14 09:53 PM

Asheville Real Estate Journal

“ It is the baby boomers that right now are shaping many areas of the housing market."

As Thanksgiving Day approaches, I was interested to read an article in which friends and family ties are highlighted.  In an article for Property Observer,    Peter Chittenden takes a look at how “Boomers” retirement plans are impacting the housing market, and points out that the desire to stay connected is a key factor to be considered

As life expectancy among the boomers continues to rise, a more complex housing market is evolving...[and]... the traditional … (3 comments)

asheville creative retirement: ASHEVILLE'S MOUNTAIN SENTINELS - 10/17/14 03:53 AM

Asheville in the Mountains-  Here is a sweet spot for  quality of life  where the   mountain sentinels (see photo) and waterfalls are natures colorful expression of welcome,  and there is that sense of place that forgives the often daily reminders of very harsh realities.

Here  too  is a positive sense of community, an uncommon blend of neighborliness with  “cultural creative” verve.  Some say Asheville, N.C.  offers unexplored corners … (4 comments)

asheville creative retirement: Post50 Homes- Style Options – Asheville-Style - 07/28/14 01:00 AM

Asheville Real Estate Journal
Post50 Homes- Style Options

When Sage and John, a beautiful couple beginning their Post-50 adventure, decided to create a sanctuary – a wonderful dream dwelling—  it was clear to them that they wanted to build something small.
They had seen an ad in an Asheville journal and were looking at a land and home package for just over $100,000. The interior would be just under 800 sqft. There would be room to add on  an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) as well. At some point in the future the idea of continuing a “family compound” … (1 comments)

Did you happen to see the 2014 report on emerging trends in real estate by The Urban Land Institute ? Interesting! It  reports that, “…baby boomers [desire living accommodations] within walking distance of downtown areas or moving into centers for active seniors.
Many people, regardless of age or physical ability, love the idea and experience of working with and/or  simply enjoying the camaraderie of friends and neighbors. This continues to be  desirable- with no age limit-  according to many older adults we speak … (3 comments)

asheville creative retirement: Baby Boomers (Un)Retirement Communities Part 2- Have YOU Been Thinking GREEN Lately ? - 03/17/12 03:37 AM
Baby Boomers (Un)Retirement - Have you been “Thinking Green” lately? A number of us, especially as we notice silvery to white hair becoming more prominent, certainly have been “Thinking Green.”  (After all it IS St. Patrick's Day!) And when it comes to an active lifestyle and creative retirement, no doubt about it, Baby Boomers are strongly interested in investigating the possibilities offered  when living in eco-friendly, multigenerational communities.
As Baby Boomers begin to (un)retire, eco-friendly lifestyles and the health and environmental benefits of a "go green" attitude fit well. An increasingly popular option hopefully becoming more common across the USA and elsewhere … (1 comments)
