energy efficiency: Retire In Your Home with Reduced Bills - 03/01/23 10:09 AM
For many, the subject of retirement brings many questions.  When will you retire? Where will you retire?  And how will you retire.  Life changes can seem daunting as many baby boomers aren't financially able to retire.

But what if you could plan for retirement with reduced bills?  What bills can be eliminated so that retirement is simpler?

What if you could retire in your home with no electricity bills?  What if you didn't have a mortgage payment?  And what if you didn't buy gasoline either?

This is exactly what I've worked to accomplish!

Having converted my own home to a "net zero" home, producing as … (10 comments)

energy efficiency: Heat Pump Water Heaters - Reduced Energy Usage! - 03/01/22 12:39 PM
Last October, I wrote a post about choosing the right water heater for your home. Every type of water heater is different, using different amounts of energy whether it's electricity or gas powered and the costs vary.  My focus on that post was to point out the differences to help home owners make informed decisions.

But I didn't give a more complete scope of information on my favorite water heater.

My favorite water heater, using only electricity for my home, is the heat pump water heater.   Just waiting on my water heater to fail to purchase one of them!

Fast forward to today.  One … (13 comments)

energy efficiency: Blog Post to the Rescue - Specializing in Energy Efficiency - 10/04/21 09:46 AM
We write blogs for a variety of reasons.  Sharing statistics, information on real estate transactions, products and services and our own views on the industry or personal topics.
It's always likely that someone has read a blog and posts an opinion within ActiveRain.  But what if a blog has never been read and a question surfaces about one of our blog topics?
That's just what happened this morning.  We never know how far the band-width of a blog will reach.  Sometimes that doesn't even matter!

Today, a local designer that knows my specialty in energy efficiency called about  a client need.  Her client, not … (25 comments)

energy efficiency: It Ain't Easy Being Green; How One Word Can be Misleading - 11/08/20 10:26 PM
It Ain’t Easy Being Green; How One Word can be Misleading

I’m humbled to be invited to speak on the weekly Tuesday zoom session.  Thanks for reaching out  Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400 !

For years now, the mention of the phrase “Being Green” brought images of a cute frog with a sing-songy tune  from Sesame Street.  For decades Kermit brought laughter and smiles to children, and adults, with the simple phrase, “It ain’t easy being green.”

Kermit’s brand of green is very different than what I’m talking about in today’s blog.

Being “green” for some brings images to mind that include tree huggers, protestors, and chemical … (28 comments)

energy efficiency: The Future is Bright for Energy! - 12/25/18 08:03 PM
It's easy to say that inspiration can be found in many forms and from many different sources. From a person, an event, a place, even a paint color inspiration is unique for each of us!  To me, inspiration is as individual as a finger print.  What is important to me may not be important to you.

For me, inspiration comes first from my daughters and their families.  They are wonderful human beings and I'm very proud of them.  Their roles as mothers, wives, sisters, and friends shows me that they are "good people" which is something I've always tried to emulate.   I'm … (26 comments)

energy efficiency: You Just Never Know Who is Calling - 11/19/18 08:02 PM
When my phone rings at 7:00 pm at night, I vacillate between answering it or letting it go to voicemail.  After all, who would be calling at that time of night?  A call from Google maybe.

So tonight's call was a unique call.  The caller had already bought a home . He just moved here from Maryland.  So why was he calling?

He searched on the internet looking for someone to help him make his home more energy efficient.  Apparently I'm the gatekeeper of that information, ,Green Vendor Site with over 100 contacts in energy efficiency!

If you search for a "green realtor" even though … (14 comments)

energy efficiency: Cheapest Way to Lower Your Energy Bills - 08/23/18 09:00 PM
Helping homeowners lower their energy bills has truly been a 10 year learning curve for me benefiting my clients. Thanks to my background, I was invited to be a guest on the podcast "The Weekly Closer."  I had such a great time and I can't thank Security Title & Fidelity National Home Warranty enough for the invitation and for how well the interview was put together and hosted!

In this interview, I was able to share the steps to reduce energy bills, the method I used to determine the best return on investment, and why I got into this niche in real … (26 comments)

energy efficiency: Pearl GOLD Achieved! - 08/01/18 11:26 AM
After hearing about the Pearl Certication a week ago, I decided to go for it and get my home certified. No, I didn't "Go for the Gold" as I had no idea what energy efficient upgrades would be allotted points. So, I contacted them in blind faith that after all my hard work, my home would achieve at least a silver certification.

Receiving the call yesterday that my home earned the GOLD Certification, well let's just say I was excited to say the least! You see, my home is a teaching tool that is included in my slide deck in my classes for … (23 comments)

energy efficiency: Energy Efficiency Isn't a Craze, It's the Here and Now and Our Future - 06/26/17 10:46 AM
Lots of attention has been devoted lately to climate change, the science of climate change, and political pressure with the future of the EPA at risk.  Before you decide that this is a  political rant, read on.

I'm excited to share news hot off the press from the National Association of REALTORS® May meeting.  Here's a cut and paste for clarity:

"Discussions about energy performance, climate change, sustainable communities, and a focus on environmental and building health, were prominent features during the May meetings,"

The article goes on to say that thanks to a "vocal membership" sustainability and issues surrounding that are gaining … (13 comments)

energy efficiency: My Niche in Green Real Estate, Switched My Niche! - 04/10/17 09:08 PM
Back in 2007, one of the break-out sessions for the National Association of REALTORS® was presented by an EcoBroker.  Now I don't know about you, but my first thought was and is for many people, "What is an EcoBroker?" Even today I still get that question, much less what is a NAR GREEN designee?
I had heard that an EcoBroker was going to present her business model.  I was so intrigued that I started researching this presentation.  Visiting EcoBroker.com, I soon learned that this was a green designation for real estate agents.  The site also hosted affiliates in the industry and … (18 comments)

Making My Home More Energy Efficient
This past Friday an Energy Audit was performed on my home by  AE3Q, for steps to Making My Home More Energy Efficient.  AE3Q, Advanced Energy Efficiency & Environmental Quality, "offers home energy audits and Home Performance upgrades to help make your home more energy efficient, more comfortable, and more environmentally friendly - with lower utility bills and a healthier indoor environment."
