janie pugh sells homes: Random Act of Kindness #9: Phone-A-Friend
- 12/22/14 09:54 PM
I had a precious client that was a dear, dear, elderly man. He (Mr. P.) had bought and sold many houses through me over the years. But the most important thing about my relationship was not financial----it was what I learned from that sweet, old man. He was 94 years old, and had seen and done more in his lifetime than I probably ever will. He was orphaned as a young boy, and grew up in foster homes. As a young man, he served his country, fighting in World War II. As a civilian, his first job was loading pallets for Nabisco. Over (0 comments)
janie pugh sells homes: Random Act of Kindness Suggestion #8: Here's a Tip!
- 12/22/14 03:12 AM
When you eat out at a sit-down restaurant, as you are paying your check, how about leaving a gift card in addition to the tip? Have you ever thought that restaurant servers have a physicially and emotionally draining job? They are on their feet the whole time they are working, running food here, refilling drinks there, and making sure numerous tables of guests are well taken care of.
Show your server some appreciation and leave something extra when you pay your check. A gift card to a coffee shoppe, restaurant, gas station, car wash, etc. I am sure it would (2 comments)
janie pugh sells homes: Random Act of Kindness Suggestion #7: After You, Sir!
- 12/21/14 03:29 AM
My father told me about a time he was walking toward an exit door when a young boy went running past him, nearly bumping into him. Just as he was about to judge this young man, who appeared to be rude and disrespectful, he realized as he approached the door, he was anything but....the boy had run past him so abruptly so he could open the door for him. He was humbled by the kindness this young boy had extended as he helped an elderly, arthritic man out. Have a patient, tolerant and open mind. Always remember: Things aren't always as (3 comments)
janie pugh sells homes: Random Act of Kindness Suggestion #6: Return the Buggy!
- 12/20/14 03:58 AM
One day, it was pouring down rain when my son and I went to the grocery store. Before we got out of the car, I suggested that we should retrieve a few extra carts from the parking lot and return them as we walked to the store. Of course my son's first response was, "Don't they have workers that do that?" I replied, "Well, yes they do. But I am sure they don't like to have to go outside in the freezing rain to retrieve the carts. Just because you get paid to do something doesn't mean you wouldn't like a little (2 comments)
janie pugh sells homes: Speed Networking: Building Local Relationships
- 11/13/14 09:53 AM
Before I moved to Charleston, about 75% of my business in Georgia was repeat and referred business. After practicing for 8 years in the same town, with the same company, I had established a healthy network of folks that were either past clients, or that referred to me on a regular basis. And I stayed busy! Now that I am in a new town, I am like a new agent, out looking for business. Although I know the business, I don't have any past clients in the area, so it is imperitive that I get out and build relationships with (2 comments)
janie pugh sells homes: Practicing "Safe Sales"
- 09/29/14 04:20 AM
As I read the updates on missing Arkansas Realtor®, Beverly Clark, my heart races as it breaks. I have put myself into similar situations, time and time again, as most all of us in the real estate profession have done. I think after the real estate market crashed, many of us lost a lot of our common sense of safety and became overzealous about trying to financially make it through the crisis. Even though we are trained and warned to always meet our customers at our offices for a pre-buyer consultation, we are often so eager that we sometimes get (3 comments)

"There is no season when such pleasant and sunny spots may be lighted on and produce so pleasant an effect on the feelings, as now in autumn." -Nathaniel Hawthorne
My favorite time of the year----Fall. Soon, we can sit back and enjoy the amazing colors of fall before the oncoming chore of raking leaves! And it is time to mull some cider, too! If you like to add a little spirit to your beverages now and then, Hot Mulled Cider with a splash of Honey Jack is cozy on cool fall days! Happy first day of Autumn!

Since Monday, I’ve been taking a class called "Ninja". Not Ninja in the physical sense, but Ninja in the mental sense. Among other things, it's about having a plan along with "eye of the tiger", laser focus, to get to where you want to be. It's about coming up with better systems and improving discipline to accomplish your goals. All week long my classmates and I have had several "ah-ha" moments, epiphanies, if you will, leading us to thoughts of how to do things better by working smarter, not harder, to achieve the goals we set for ourselves. janie pugh sells homes: Happy Grandparent's Day!
- 09/05/14 03:49 AM
I noticed on the calendar that this Sunday, September 7th is National Grandparents Day. I started thinking that as a child in the 60’s and 70’s, I don’t remember ever having celebrated my Grandparents on one day in particular. So to confirm I hadn’t missed something (or that my mother had forgotten to remind me when I was 12 years old to call my grandparents, after 7 pm when the long distance rates were cheaper, to wish them Happy Grandparents Day), I looked it up. FYI---National Grandparents’ Day wasn’t founded until 1978 by President Jimmy Carter, just in case you want (1 comments)
janie pugh sells homes: Camaraderie and a Winning Team
- 09/03/14 04:46 AM
This past weekend, I, along with hundreds of thousands of others across the country, attended the first football game of the season. As I sat and watched our team’s players interact with each other, both on the field as well as on the sidelines, something really jumped out at me: Camaraderie. The way they interacted with each other was different: This year, I noticed they encouraged each other, expressed enthusiasm, promptly responding to others when they were down……It really created a winning environment, and win they did! During the game, I leaned over and mentioned my observation to my husband. Being (0 comments)
janie pugh sells homes: Predictably Un-Predictable!
- 08/25/14 05:33 AM
A new state, a new company, but a new mission? Hmmm, let’s see…I usually review this type of thing at the end of the year when I am working on my business plan for the upcoming year. But now seems like a good time to re-visit my personal mission statement since everything is new! (And because my new broker asked me to!) I wrote a personal mission statement years ago that I can tweak as necessary. I was going to cheat and just use that one, but in the process of trying to find where I had written it down, (0 comments)
