newburgh ny: The Calm Before the Storm - Getting Ready for JUNO! - 01/25/15 08:51 PM
HISTORIC BLIZZARD HEADS to ORANGE COUNTY NY
JUNO is on his way to the Northeast, and unless you have been living under a rock the last couple of days, you are well aware of this massive winter storm traveling north to the New York City area. Plans are to drop close to two feet of snow for most of us and then move on. The additional danger is in the winds that are expected to topple down power lines and trees.

newburgh ny: George Washington's Headquarters Video - 11/01/14 01:04 AM
Do You Use #Autoawesome?
Google Plus is always up to showing off new features. I enjoyed it when they made this great video for me to feature a group of photos recently taken at George Washington's Headquarters this fall. I love that all I needed to do was add my choice of music and a title. Bam, now I have a little video that I posted on Youtube, optimized it and then link it to my website. Somehow I think it makes Google happy too. We all know that when Google goes to rank things I do, the more the merrier. … (24 comments)

newburgh ny: Did You Remember to Set Your Clocks Back? - 10/31/14 11:29 PM
IMPORTANT FALL REMINDERS!
If you are like me, you most likely got up this morning before the sun!!  November is here and last night we set our clocks back one hour. While my computer knew what time it was, my wall clocks did not. So many ways to be reminded of the time change, it is not that hard to remember and be on time. It is also a great time to consider the following:
SMOKE DETECTORS:  Check and replace batteries on your smoke detectors. Twice a year is a smart way to stay safe. Checking the batteries is really such … (11 comments)

newburgh ny: Make Your Move to the Hudson Valley - 10/21/14 01:24 PM
Chadwick Lake a Beautiful Park in the Town of Newburgh NY
Another reason to make Newburgh your home
The temperatures have been falling in the Hudson Valley, and with that so are the leaves off the trees. Seems much to soon this year, but I haven't found a way to slow it down. Believe me I've tried. This weekend  I enjoyed the sunshine and a beautiful stroll  around the lake. A bit windy and I think while we were there the temperature dropped ten degrees. I should have brought some hot chocolate for the walk.

Seems my friend is not bothered by the … (5 comments)

newburgh ny: A New School Year Begins in the Hudson Valley - 09/01/14 04:08 AM
A Formal Education is a Privilege and a Joy Can you feel it? If you have small children in your household it is likely that you know exactly what I'm talking about. There is major excitement in the air. Summer is coming to an end. Schools open their doors and a new year begins. Local children are torn between giving up their freedom of the summer and getting back to hard work. Many are anxious to return to friends and familiar faces after a long summer, but with that, comes the apprehension of a new year and new challenges.
I remember when I … (0 comments)

newburgh ny: Sailing to Newburgh NY - 06/26/14 09:14 AM
Summer time and the days are hot hot hot! When the weather heats up, the Hudson River calls out to most of us that live here. I never tire or take for granted the beautiful views and sunshine.  My clients visiting from NYC love the tour I give of the waterfront each time I get an opportunity. It is one of the many reasons that Newburgh is a great place to live. Sailing on the Hudson River makes me smile.
Many homes in the area have some pretty remarkable views of the Hudson River too. Pricing in Orange County for a waterfront home with … (2 comments)

newburgh ny: Town of Newburgh NY - Why Not Relocate to the Hudson Valley? - 05/15/14 10:33 PM
Springtime in the The Town of Newburgh NY
Looking for a new place to call home?

The marina down by the Newburgh Waterfront is getting busy. This photo was taken when the boats were starting to go back in the water. Every day another boat is launched and the sounds and scent of summer is well underway. Now if it would only stop raining I would head down to relax and sit by the water. Ten restaurants and a beautiful walkway and park to enjoy. I love spring! Are you looking for a new place to call home? The Town … (9 comments)

newburgh ny: Newburgh NY Countdown to Spring 2014 - 02/28/14 02:11 PM
The Countdown to Spring 2014 and Snow is on the way.... Again
No, spring is not in the air! Not yet. Seems mother nature thinks this is funny or that we deserve all the cold air and snow this year. The east coast has been hit with record snow this year and I am so done with it. Spring 2012 and the trees by waterfront was in full bloom early that year.
There is hope on the horizon. 19 days and counting!

I love when these flowers bloom every spring. It seems that it will be late considering … (9 comments)

More Than Just a Backyard Hen House My CSA - Fresh Veggies all Summer
Newburgh is starting to feel the change in temperature. Summer has but a few days left before Autumn takes over. It already seems to be a distant memory and it certainly was not the hottest summer on record. As the days get shorter and summer comes to an end, so does the local CSA (community supported aggriculture) close up for the year. Our 16 weeks of yummy veggies is over. Last Saturday was the final summer share. It has been fun (always a fabulous photo op) and … (16 comments)

newburgh ny: Sunset over Newburgh NY - 07/23/13 09:19 PM
Picnic by the Waterfront & Views of the Hudson River
Sunsets are quite lovely. Lately I have been spending dinner time at the waterfront across from Newburgh at Long Dock Park in Beacon NY. There are no waterfront restauarnts in that part of town, so we bring our own food, chairs and a bottle of wine to sit and relax at the end of a tiring day. What could be better? I could get used to doing this everyday. We have been averaging about three or four nights a week this summer. These evenings seem like a mini vacation. A couple … (8 comments)

newburgh ny: The Hudson Valley Countryside - Commuting to NYC - 11/29/12 11:51 AM
 The Hudson Valley Countryside
A Great Reason for Commuting to NYC
Barns in the Hudson Valley are everywhere. I never realized how quickly you can leave Manhattan and find yourself out on a country road until I moved to Newburgh NY. Trees and rolling hills and meadows and barns are all around. I am amazed at how many still exist. Some barns remain on small working farms and others exist only because they were so well built that they have not yet fallen down. Other barns dot the countryside and have been abandoned by humans. They are a source of shelter … (6 comments)

Restoring Homes in Newburgh.... One House at a Time!
Historic Homes in Newburgh NY
The City of Newburgh has many homes that date back to the 19th century. The architecture of these older homes is a style seldom used currently in new construction. Attention to detail with crown molding, archways and stained glass found its way into many homes back then. These details are a delight, but seldom used in the same fashion now. Federalist,Victorian and Art-Deco design are among the homes that have survived over the years.
Many homes have had renovations and others are in major disrepair.

When I drive … (3 comments)

"HAIRSPRAY"
Ready, set and time for the local high schools in the Hudson Valley to feature their special talents. Each year students work together as a team to produce a full length musical complete with costumes, props, set design, lighting, orchestra and of course the dancers and actors.  It starts with auditions, usually back in late fall, and then after the holidays are over and the new year begins an extensive rehearsal schedule is added in to their already lengthy school day.
