long beach: Happy Labor Day!

While many associate Labor Day with the end of summer and an opportunity for parades, parties, picnics, cookouts and shopping sprees, the day was inaugurated in the late 19th century out of respect for organised labor and the rights of the individual, as explained by authors Joe Sommerlad and Kimberly Richards.
All the generations were here and the mood was euphoric in the 3rd annual Gay Pride Parade held in Long Beach, NY.
The celebration, consisting of a concert, with Macy Gray as headliner, a fair and festival, pet parade, fun trot, cabaret and religious services was spread out over an entire weekend in various locations throughout the city.
Participants came from near and far and Long Beach was well prepared with security, sanitation, parking alternatives, medical aid and relief stations.
All in all, it's become a very successful event in this new venue on the beach and destined to be a regular (14 comments)
