long beach new york: A Question of Legacy - 12/28/17 01:47 PM

We came to ActiveRain to build relationships, to learn from the very best in real estate and to get referrals.

With each passing year, we accepted the death or departure of one or another of our dear friends.

As we mourn those prolific and much loved Bloggers who have passed on, friends wonder about a legacy. What will happen to the volume of work each one of us so carefully crafted? A couple of decades since the advent of blogging has not left us with protocol.

Regardless of circumstances, those who are no longer a part of this amazing platform are missed and … (14 comments)

The most up-to-date indoor pool information from a reputable, area expert...
Winter is just around the corner, but in Long Beach, NY residents who are lucky enough to live in a buidling with an idoor pool can swim all-year round. Living in Long Beach, NY there are many condos and co-ops with indoor pools. In NY, where we get to below zero tempreatures in winter, it is certainly a luxury to be able to sit by an indoor pool,  simply relaxing with your favorite book or newspaper as snow falls outside. Some indoor pools even boast beautiful ocean views, so you could enjoy lounging … (3 comments)

long beach new york: Why "For Sale By Owner" May NOT Save you Money..... - 04/06/17 11:45 AM
A terrific post! Out of every legitimate reason listed below, I always found the following to be the most compelling one when deciding whether to go For Sale by Owner:

"Buyers are smarter than you think....they know you aren't paying commission and will discount an offer by the commission amount."

This has always been my experience.
In some markets across the country, the "Thinventory" is sooo thin....that it has Sellers believing whispering that your house is for sale to the neighbor....telling your friends on Facebook...doing a quick board on Pinterest will certainly sell your house in a minute for whatever the price was … (5 comments)

long beach new york: Your Suburban Life - Are You Ready? - 03/07/17 10:23 AM
Your Suburban Life - Are You Ready?

Hot Brooklyn neighborhoods come with exorbitant pricetags. Familiar names like Park Slope, Carroll Gardens, Sunset Park, Kensington, Clinton Hill and a host of others are rarely within reach for young families.

For example, a modest $489,000 can buy you a 1 or 2 bedroom/one bath co-op/condo; on average between 750 and 850 sq. ft. No parking, no outdoor space and to call it move-in ready would be a huge stretch of anyone's imagination.

Compare that to a renovated 2/3 bedroom/ 2 bath home, a reasonable commute away, and you can easily tack on a backyard, basement, garage and twice the square footage to that description.

Easy decision? … (22 comments)

long beach new york: HomeShoppers: Great value in the ones you pass on - 02/16/17 08:16 AM
HomeShoppers:  Great value in the ones you pass on

Some buyers begin the process thinking they know exactly what they want. But sometimes, their must haves don't match their budget or what a neighborhood typically offers so they need to start anew.

Other buyers have no idea in the world what they are looking for and want to see it all. To be openminded is definitely a good thing but, in order for the homeshopping outings to make sense and begin to take shape, our immediate goal is to zero in on a particular part of town before we can narrow it down to a … (39 comments)

long beach new york: Long Beach NY - The City by the Sea - Where have all our surfers gone? - 02/10/17 09:14 AM
Long Beach, NY - The City by the Sea - Where have all our surfers gone?

You know the weather is bad when our ubiquitous surfing population is nowhere to be found.

Yesterday, there was a blizzard that dumped an average of 12 inches of snow on the ground. With heavy winds and dropping temperatures, venturing outside to take pictures rapidly became an idea bordering on the insane.

Guilty as charged. I've never seen the ocean before in a snowstorm and, now,  I can cross that off my bucket list. It's very pretty and eerily quiet.

But mostly it's cold. Really, really cold.

Long Beach, NY - The City by the Sea - Polar Bear Plunge Revisited

Superbowl Sunday, February 5th, 2017

In the tri-state area today, we're having a snowstorm. It's a big one - 12-18 inches. It was only yesterday that unseasonable mild temperatures were up in the low 60's. It felt glorious.

These crazy weather patterns have made for an interesting winter.

Right before that was Long Beach's annual 18th Polar Bear Plunge. Air and water temps were close at around 35 degrees and as fellow friend and blogger, Jon Zolsky, noted "35F is freaking cold, pretty much as cold as the water gets before turning to … (7 comments)

long beach new york: Long Beach NY - The City by the Sea - New Year's Day 2017 - 01/01/17 04:19 PM
Long Beach, NY - The City by the Sea - New Year's Day 2017

Brunch with the bunch and a relaxing hour on the Long Beach boardwalk in time to see the sunset.

Such an unusually comfortable temperature for New Year's Day brought everyone out to enjoy the seabreeze along with the opportunity to walk, run or bike off those unwanted extra holiday calories.

A wonderful way to begin the New Year and to ponder what lies ahead.

I wish the best of everything to all my family, friends and ActiveRain comrades for 2017. May you have a healthy, happy and successful year.

Long Beach, NY - The City by the Sea

Here's a terrific link to Long Beach, NY for all you should know about the lovely, City by the Sea, one of two, located in Nassau County on Long Island's south shore.

Long Beach has been around since 1880 and has always been known as a summer getaway with a close commute to Manhattan. It's experiencing a renaissance of sorts with new construction, businesses, restaurants and a young and trendy west side.

An absolute gem and main attraction is the brand new 2 1/4 mile lighted boardwalk. The original was destroyed by Superstorm Sandy and it was rebuilt a year later with … (6 comments)
