book review: "Guerrilla Social Media Marketing" by Jay Conrad Levinson & Shane Gibson - 01/22/11 05:48 AM
As part of my 2011 effort to read at least one book per week on average, I finished another book yesterday, "Guerrilla Social Media Marketing" by Jay Conrad Levinson and Shane Gibson.
Shane Gibson has actually been a guest twice on Social Media Edge, our BlogTalkRadio show, and he is also the co-author of "Sociable", which is another book I liked.  Jay Conrad Levinson is the father of the guerrilla marketing movement, and his books have sold over 20 million copies worldwide.
I was excited that Shane sent me a free copy of the book, for two reasons:
I love marketing and … (18 comments)

book review: "Twitterville" by Shel Israel - Book Review - 01/23/10 06:57 AM
Quick disclaimer: This is a sincere book review and it contains my honest opinions, and I haven't been compensated in any fashion for this.  That being said, I consider Shel Israel to be a friend now, so I will dispense with any formality (i.e. I won't be referring to him as "Mr. Israel" here).
Having had a chance to speak with Shel Israel when he appeared twice on our radio show this past year, and having met him in person when he was in Austin, I was looking forward to acquiring my own copy of his latest book, "Twitterville".

book review: "Trust Agents" - Chris Brogan & Julien Smith - Quick Book Review - 10/18/09 02:11 PM
To state that Chris Brogan is a social media rockstar might just be an understatement.  He has over 31,000 subscribers to his blog at  He has over 100,000 followers on Twitter right now.  Clearly, he knows how to develop an audience of people who will pay attention to him.
And now, he has a book, too. "Trust Agents", which Chris co-wrote with veteran trend analyst Julien Smith of, is a solid field guide for new users of social media as well as seasoned veterans.  The tips are practical and easy to start implementing right away.
The book is comprised … (28 comments)

book review: "Real Estate the Rome Way" by Margaret Rome - Book Review - 08/25/09 10:08 AM
Not too long ago, while speaking with my friend Margaret Rome, award-winning Baltimore Realtor, I asked how I could get a copy of her book, "Real Estate the Rome Way".  She replied, "You give me your address and I will get it sent out to you soon."
Well, that was easy. I finished reading her book after a few short sessions, and I felt rejuvenated.  Margaret inspired me to look into even more networking opportunities, and to work toward getting a couple of real estate designations as well.  Margaret is a power networker, and a Renaissance woman.  I was a little … (43 comments)

book review: "The Skinny On Real Estate Investing" - Quick Book Review for a Very Quick Read - 07/08/09 03:30 PM
Recently, I was asked to write a review for two of Jim Randel's books in the "Skinny On" series.  Here's the post that I composed for those:  Free Books?!? One of the Coolest Perks to Being a Fairly Well-Known Blogger
Rand Publishing was apparently happy with my first post, because they sent me another FREE book to review here.  Like each of the others, "The Skinny on Real Estate Investing"is something that can easily be finished in under an hour.  I read my copy while hanging out during my older kids' martial arts class.  Speaking of the kids, even they were able … (10 comments)

book review: Free Books?!? One of the Coolest Perks to Being a Fairly Well-Known Blogger - 06/05/09 03:47 PM
A few months ago, I was contacted by someone at Rand Publishing to see if I would be interested in receiving "proof" copies of a couple of books by Jim Randel:

"The Skinny On the Housing Crisis"
"The Skinny On Credit Cards"
The "skinny" part refers to the fact that the books are actually a VERY quick read .  Each of them can easily be completed in under an hour.  In essence, they are graphic novels, which is the latest term for comic books, I think.  Each of the books follows a fictional stick figure couple as they … (15 comments)
