family fun: Meatball Tag and the Tickle Monster - 01/07/14 01:21 AM
I will be interested to see if the title of this post attracts people who have no idea what I'm talking about.
"Must be some weird autocorrect feature."
Nope.
Meatball Tag is the name of a game that was invented by my 4-year-old daughter, Jenny, and her older sister, Abby, who is 7 now. Before it got exceptionally cold outside (in my case, that's anything under 40 degrees - I live in Texas, not Alaska), I had been playing quite a bit on the trampoline in our back yard with my two younger daughters.
One evening, just after dark, we were … (9 comments)

family fun: We had a perfect Fourth of July (or as close as it gets) - 07/05/09 04:46 AM
As of Friday evening, I wasn't even positive what we were going to do to celebrate the 4th of July.  However, yesterday turned out to be just about perfect in my eyes.
My wife had been planning to go garage sale-ing (probably not a word) with her sister yesterday morning, but that didn't work out.  I offered to go instead, since I actually enjoy this, as long as I don't have to start at 6:30am.  :)
We left the house around 9am, and spent 3 hours picking up some amazing deals on books, clothes, toys, and more.  We spent about $18 … (20 comments)

family fun: Crouch Family Afternoon at the Park - 11/01/08 03:28 PM
This afternoon, we spent a few hours with our friends from Christ Church PCA at San Gabriel Park in Georgetown, Texas.  This post is not about the park, nor is it about the church.  Instead, I just felt like writing about what a terrific and relaxing afternoon I had with my family.  I didn't bring my camera, but I wanted to share our day with you.
Shortly after we arrived, I took my seven-year-old daughter, Aleah, down to the mostly-dry riverbed to walk around.  She was a little hesitant because of all the "wobbly rocks" at first, but she warmed to the … (8 comments)

family fun: Our Family Trip to the Houston Zoo (with photos) - 09/20/08 09:56 AM
This is the final "installment" of my family trip photos from our recent visit to Houston (pre-hurricane).  We spent our last day at the Houston Zoo, which was a lot of fun for the whole family.  Unfortunately, the last time I went there, my cell phone was stolen from my van, so if you visit, I would encourage you to lock your doors.
The zoo is located on the southern edge of downtown, across from Rice University, in Hermann Park.  Here's their website if you are interested in checking it out for yourself: http://www.houstonzoo.org/.

Here's a self-portrait of sorts with … (33 comments)

family fun: Do you ever take your kids to showings? Well, I did it today. - 07/09/08 04:26 PM
My wife was super tired and just generally not feeling well this afternoon.  In fact, without getting into details, I will say that the previous statement was a major understatement.  She was teetering on the brink of exhaustion.  She really needed to rest somehow, yet I had an appointment at 5:30, so I did the only thing I could think to do at that point.
I rounded up all three kids and took them with me to my showing.
My kids are 9, 7, and 2, so this is no small feat.  The older two kids are very easy, but taking a toddler is at … (43 comments)

family fun: LOCALISM FEATURED: My Night at the Dell Diamond - Round Rock Express Home Game - 07/01/08 01:27 PM

Last night, I joined about a dozen guys from my church in a luxury skybox at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock to enjoy a home game for the Round Rock Express.
We had special VIP parking, which was both close to the door and FREE.  The air conditioned suite was awesome, with a full kitchen, leather sofa and chair, and a few bar stools overlooking the field from the first base side.
I must admit that this was a terrific way to enjoy the game.  Although we had the comfort of A/C inside, I felt like I was more … (22 comments)

family fun: My family's visit to the Zilker Botanical Gardens in Austin - FREE and fun! - 04/09/08 04:24 AM

Monday afternoon, my wife and I took our kids to the Zilker Botanical Gardens, and I was reminded of how blessed I really am to be self-employed and homeschooling our children.  My friends in corporate jobs don't often get the opportunity to spend a few hours on a weekday enjoying nature and family time.  Frankly, I am ready to return soon to the gardens, especially since we didn't get a chance to see the whole thing this time.
Since my last visit, which was over a year ago, they have opened a new section called the "Prehistoric Garden".  The kids were highly excited about … (20 comments)

family fun: Family Fun in Austin, Texas - 10/30/07 07:36 PM
Austin was named #1 on the list of "Best Cities for Relocating Families" last year by Worldwide ERC and Primacy Relocation, and with good reason.  There is so much fun stuff for families to do here.  With thanks to my beautiful wife, who helped me compile this list, I wanted to give some examples in order to illustrate the diverse fun things to do with your kids if you are visiting or moving to the Austin area:

Zilker Park
This is located on the southern edge of downtown Austin, and it is our version of Central Park.  Has a lot to … (46 comments)
