Heat pump or resistance furnace - which one do you want to turn on?
A heat pump provides heat two ways:
1.  The mechanism is essentially an air conditioner with the ability to work backwards.  To heat a house it literally compresses the heat from outdoors and brings it inside.  When it's too cold outdoors the heat pump becomes less efficient, and eventually unable to provide heat.  So,

What's wrong with this thermostat?
It's  a fine thermostat, a brand universally used for replacement thermostats.
It's  new and programmable!
It's  in a good place in the house!
It's  a little off kilter on the wall, but that doesn't matter.
It's  okay in every regard ... except one.
It's
wrong!
Why is it wrong?
This is a newly-renovated house.
It has a new roof (second layer), new drywall in the basement (replacing drywall damaged by a previous and maybe ongoing foundation leak), new appliances, new carpet, new paint, new deck (with a trip hazard and stairs not to code), and new HVAC system!
