Greensboro heat advisories posted for this week
If you think it's been hot lately, you haven't seen (or felt) anything yet.
From the Greensboro News & Record today:
Weather forecasters are warning residents of central North Carolina that extremely hot and humid conditions could make outdoor activities dangerous.
The National Weather Service says temperatures are expected in the mid-90s to 100 Tuesday and Wednesday. Combined with high humidity, the risk of heat stroke and dehydration is high for anyone working or playing outdoors during the next two days.
So take precautions, stay indoors if possible, drink plenty of water and stay … (0 comments)

greensoro real estate market: Looking For More Hours In the Day? - 07/11/11 03:39 AM

Looking For More Hours In the Day? by Phyllis Brookshire of Allen tate REALTORS
I’m sure there has been a day when you have wished for more hours. The more technology we have and the more we opt to take-on, the more challenging it becomes to manage our time.
Here are a few time management tips I have learned over the years that have served me well:
Sticky Notes. Do you have sticky notes everywhere?  While they are a useful tool, each sticky note is a collection point (those physical places you use to capture actions, reminders, and notes).

Prequalification vs. Preapproval: Which Is Best For You? By Chris Cope
Starting your home search can be extremely exciting  – and nerve-wracking. You are about to embark on a great adventure. It can be easy to get caught up in all the excitement and lose track of the many different moving parts you need to keep in place. One of the most important moving parts is your mortgage financing.
As you start your search you may hear phrases like “Make sure you are pre-qualified!” or “Get pre-approved!” What do these mean, which one is best for you and how will … (3 comments)

greensoro real estate market: Financing your fixer upper - 07/08/11 03:21 AM
Financing your fixer upper
By Don O’Dell (Senior Mortgage Consultant)
Whether it’s a foreclosure, a short-sell or a home neglected by a cash-strapped owner, homes that need work are often a smart buy.
But how do you finance the fix-up on your fixer-upper?
Consider an FHA 203(k) Loan. This renovation/rehab loan program combines a traditional home mortgage with a home repair loan, giving you the flexibility to buy a property that needs repair and fold the cost of those repairs into a single mortgage.
With a Streamline 203(k) loan, you can borrow up to $35,000 for improvements such as repair/replacement … (0 comments)

How does my house stack up?
By Pat Riley of Allen Tate REALTORS
Knowledge is king for sure. Park of knowing your market is to know where it begins and ends. Who are you competing with and who is your direct competition?
There are many factors that determine the actual geography. It is a school zone, crime stats, or a highway corridor that folks won’t cross? Is it a school feeder pattern? Sometimes folks, in addition to price, want to limit the search to new or resale. Many times, amenity packages and HOA fees make a difference, along with the … (0 comments)

greensoro real estate market: Questions to Ask Your Realtor - 07/02/11 02:01 AM

By Regina Walter of Allen tate REALTORS
As a consumer, I’ve often wondered what I should be asking my real estate agent when buying or selling a home. At one point, when I was purchasing my first home, I wondered if I even needed an agent – how hard could it be after all? I did try to purchase a home without agent representation, but the transaction went sideways and fell apart.  Did you know that buyers of previously owned homes and buyers aged 18 to 24 were most likely to report using a real estate agent?
The agent that … (1 comments)

Three lessons learned.
By Tony Jarrett of Allen Tate REALTORS
In today’s real estate market, new and unique challenges are facing our clients on their journey to homeownership. When approached correctly, we can often discover success as we overcome hurdles during the journey. My parents used to tell me to always look at your mistakes as an opportunity to learn. In other words, you need to get caught up in the experience so it doesn’t happen to you again. Those words have stuck with me, especially when it comes to my job. We are living during a period where there are … (1 comments)

Green cleaners...a safer, gentler way to clean your home.
From Regina walter of Allen tate Realtors:
It was a beautiful spring day and I had the urge to clean up my place. Since I didn’t have many supplies available, I took a look around and remembered my mother using some of the most basic products (I think they were on to something back than!)- vinegar, baking soda, lemons and yes even onions (for odors).
When you switch to natural everyday staples for housekeeping, you will have a healthier home environment. Vinegar, baking soda and lemons are clean-up champions and they are … (5 comments)

Outdoor Living Space Planting Advicefor the Carolinas
With the wonderful climates here in the Carolinas (minus the heat wave we’ve been subject to recently!), we get to spend a lot of time entertaining and enjoying our outdoor living spaces. That being said, there is no reason for your planters to sit bare during the fall and winter months. Many of us simply leave our planters bare because the thought of maintaining that “inviting” look at all times can be a little overwhelming. Believe me, I get it. But fear not! There are easy, low-maintenance steps you can take to keep your … (1 comments)

greensoro real estate market: Weather is wreaking havoc for many sellers! - 04/16/11 05:03 AM
Weather is wreaking havoc for many sellers!
At first, I thought is was just my imagination, but the TV news confirmed it this morning.  We have had an abnormal amount of severe weather so far this spring.
In our area, we have been spared the tornadoes, but heavy winds, lightning and hail have caused quite a bit of damage.  Power outages as a result, have only made things worse.
For many homeowners trying to sell their homes, it has been a real problem.  Trees and branches down have made a mess everywhere. The cost of removing these trees can be quite … (3 comments)
