The Napali Coast on the garden island of Kaua'i is a stunning bit of coastline, seen here from the Kalalau Lookout. While I've been told the best views are by boat or by helicopter, my body doesn't take well to those modes of transportation so this was the best I could do.

This photo reminded me of Monet's waterlilies, some of his most impressive and famous paintings of his garden at Giverny, France. I thought the photo looked more like an impressionist painting than something taken with a camera. If you've even seen his paintings in real life you know how extraordinary they are.

World famous La Jolla Cove in La Jolla, CA, just north of San Diego, is known for a wide range of wild life - seals, sea lions, pelicans, and cormorants, to name a few. It's a beautiful area and well worth a visit - enjoy a walk along the bluff or take out a kayak for a whole different perspective!

As soon as I read Dick Greenberg’s post about the 2016 ActiveRain Photography Contest, and saw the categories I knew immediately which photo I wanted to use. It’s taken a little time to get my act together to talk about it, but the choice was simple.
