Carlsbad CA has a diverse population of housing, as reflected in the sales for the first half of 2015 and the current list of single family detached homes for sale, with homes from around $500,000 to well into the millions (the highest priced home for sale as of this writing is listed for $9.995,000 - $11,495,000).
Finding a single family home these days in Carlsbad for under $500K is very difficult, with no current listings and only a handful of sales this year.

The much debated, and hotly-contested, Quarry Creek development in Carlsbad is moving ahead now that law suits filed by the environmental group, Preserve Calavera, have been settled with a number of concessions by the builder.
The final construction plans are awaiting approval by the City of Carlsbad.
