carlsbad village: Carlsbad Village Neighborhood – Homes, Shopping, Dining and the Beach - 01/24/18 09:03 PM
The Carlsbad Village Neighborhood
Housing, Shopping, Dining and the Beach Lifestyle

The Carlsbad Village neighborhood is certainly one of the more diverse in Carlsbad in terms of the amenities, and the wide range of housing opportunities.

Living in or near the Village has a strong appeal for many who want the beach life but also easy access to all the Village has to offer – restaurants, abundant shopping, wine bars, spas, galleries, the New Village Arts Theater, and so much more.

The train station offers Amtrak trains north to LA and beyond and south to San Diego, as well as the Coaster commuter … (7 comments)

carlsbad village: Baba Coffee in Carlsbad Village - 03/26/17 11:16 AM
Baba Coffee in Carlsbad Village

Baba Coffee is a newish coffee shop in Carlsbad Village (opened in June 2016 I believe), and despite driving by multiple times I haven’t stopped in to check it out until yesterday.

It was a gorgeous afternoon and I was in the Village running errands, and there was parking right in front, so it was the perfect time. Besides, I needed a caffeine boost and espresso sounded like the right idea.

I really like the urban vibe of this place, with plentiful seating indoors and out. There are garage-type doors that open up in several places to bring in … (21 comments)

carlsbad village: What is the Carlsbad Village Lifestyle? - 08/18/16 04:23 AM
Experience the Carlsbad Village Lifestyle

The Carlsbad Village lifestyle can be as simple or complex as you wish, but know that there are plenty of options, whether it has to do with dining, shopping, fun stuff to do or just hanging out by the beach.

The Carlsbad Village Lifestyle

Of course when you think of Carlsbad Village you no doubt think of a lifestyle by the beach. With 7 miles of beautiful coastline, many people live here, or visit, to be near the ocean and enjoy a diverse lifestyle of activities in the water, on the beach, and close by in town.

Carlsbad Village is the business … (2 comments)

carlsbad village: Almost Wordless Wednesday: Carlsbad Mineral Water - 07/06/16 05:52 AM
Carlsbad Mineral Water

Alkaline mineral water was discovered in Carlsbad way back in 1882 by Capt. John Frazier when digging a well for his farm.

Residents can purchase this mineral water, reported to have a number of health benefits, at 3 kiosks in Carlsbad Village. The Carlsbad Mineral Water Spa is here, as is a 13' statue of Capt. Frazier.

Bring your own container - water costs $.50 a gallon!!

Kiosks are at 2805 Carlsbad Boulevard, just a block from the beach.

carlsbad village: The Carlsbad Village Faire is May 1, 2016 in Carlsbad California - 04/16/16 01:12 AM
Carlsbad Village Faire will be May 1, 2016

If you need something fun to do the first weekend in May, then this popular arts and crafts fair may be just for you.

San Diego County’s largest street fair, the Carlsbad Village Faire, will take place Sunday, May 1, in downtown Carlsbad Village by the Sea.

The Carlsbad Village Faire, the 43rd this year, is reportedly the nation’s largest 1-day outdoor street fair. As always, the fair will be held along Grand Avenue and will spill over onto adjacent streets including State Street in the heart of the Village.

The Carlsbad Village Faire, one of two each … (20 comments)

carlsbad village: Boys and Girls Clubs of Carlsbad CA - 02/29/16 09:19 AM
Boys and Girls Clubs of Carlsbad CA

Founded in 1952 as the Carlsbad Boys Club and renamed later in 1992 as the Boys and Girls Clubs of Carlsbad, this organization has provided a range of programs for tens of thousands of Carlsbad’s youth since being founded.

Initially focusing on recreation and programs for after school, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Carlsbad have expanded their programs to provide a broader range of life skills, nurturing, educational enhancement, arts, recreation and leadership development.

The original facility, remodeled a number of times, is located in Carlsbad Village and now includes a covered pool, technology center, … (6 comments)

carlsbad village: Carlsbad Village Lifestyle – Restaurant 0, Hotel 1 - 02/17/16 07:26 AM
Carlsbad Village Lifestyle – Restaurant 0, Hotel 1

Carlsbad Village is seeing yet another change in the dining, hotel, and architectural landscape.

The Armenian Café, a dining icon for about 3 decades on the coast road in view of the ocean is no longer, being razed, along with a single family home and the adjacent Surf Motel, to make room for a new Marriott. I was there for brunch not that long ago and we walked just a couple of weeks ago and all was well.

The Armenian Café was known for it’s outside dining, Mediterranean food, and belly dancing 3 nights per week … (7 comments)

carlsbad village: The Carlsbad Village Lifestyle – Transportation Options - 02/13/16 03:54 AM
The Carlsbad Village Lifestyle – Transportation Options

As with shopping, dining, services and things to do, the Carlsbad Village lifestyle includes a number of transportation options.

ON FOOT
For many on foot is the way to get around unless health or physical issues prevent doing so. The Carlsbad Boardwalk along the beach for over a mile, really a concrete walk way, and the many sidewalks, with some recent improvements, in the Village provide a safe and easy way to get around on foot. It’s cheap, good exercise, and you don’t have to worry about looking for parking

carlsbad village: What is the Carlsbad Village by the Sea Lifestyle? - 01/30/16 05:15 AM
What is the Carlsbad Village by the Sea Lifestyle?

No doubt there are many answers to this question, depending on who you ask (residents, visitors, different age groups, part-timers), but perhaps with a similar theme running through them.

Enjoy the slideshow below for an introductory glimpse at life here in Carlsbad (not just the Village)

Naturally when one thinks of Carlsbad, and specifically Carlsbad Village, the immediate lifestyle theme centers around the beach. With 7 miles of coastline, many settle here, or visit, to be near the beach and enjoy a myriad of activities in the water, on the beach, and nearby.

There’s something very … (12 comments)

The Carlsbad Village Lifestyle by the Sea – Niche Blogging in 2016

Bob Stewart challenged us to think about the Year of the Blog and to declare what our niche blogging for 2016 was all about. And that means putting it in writing, not just having the vision.

My primary focus is, and has been for some time, on relocation (I'm known as the Southern California Relocation Dude) primarily with those moving to the coastal areas of San Diego, and specifically Carlsbad.

I know relocation, I’ve lived it 4 major times, and I write about it here and on my other blogs, with Relocation … (26 comments)

carlsbad village: Where to Get the Best French Toast in Carlsbad CA - 01/28/16 06:35 AM
Where to Get the Best French Toast in Carlsbad CA

I don’t think I’ve ever been specifically asked about French Toast, although lots of people ask about breakfast places in Carlsbad, especially in the Village.

Foodie that I am, I know a bit about some of the dining finds in Carlsbad. I know we are not LA, NYC or San Francisco, but there is some pretty decent breakfast food around. And a wide range of settings to enjoy it – from very casual to more upscale (generally the hotels). Some ocean views, too!

My top recommendation is the French Toast at Café Elysa on … (18 comments)

carlsbad village: Carlsbad Has a New Sign in Downtown Carlsbad Village - 01/06/15 12:23 PM

Carlsbad Has a New Sign in Downtown Carlsbad Village

That’s right. Carlsbad has new and distinctive signage that was just installed in the downtown area welcoming residents and visitors to our Village by the Sea!

The sign is over the main Carlsbad Boulevard, also called the Coast Road (Route 101) at Carlsbad Village Drive. This has been a long time coming and was set in place just a week ago.

Carlsbad will be hosting a formal lighting ceremony on January 8 at 5:30 pm. All are welcome.

carlsbad village: I’m Going Back to Cali, in Carlsbad CA - 12/11/14 09:33 AM

I’m Going Back to Cali, in Carlsbad CA

Back to Cali is a very cool shop in the Village Faire Shopping Center in the heart of Carlsbad Village, at the corner of Carlsbad Village Drive and the Coast Road/101/Carlsbad Boulevard.

I had a chance to visit today and spent some time talking with the very charming owner, David Addy, who reflects on his sentiment, and that of many others who have visited our area, of wanting to go back to Cali. Thus a dream became a reality.

David Addy, who hails from Germany originally, enthusiastically … (11 comments)

carlsbad village: Carlsbad Roundabout Nearing Completion - 07/18/14 04:42 AM

Carlsbad Roundabout Nearing Completion

The new Carlsbad Roundabout (we called them rotaries back East) is nearing completion.

While the roundabout, located at the corner of State Street and the Coast Roast/Carlsbad Boulevard) is functional, they are still finalizing the landscaping, and the new public sculpture has yet to be installed.

I tried out the roundabout yesterday and it does make getting from the Coast Road to State Street (heading into Carlsbad Village), or reversing direction, so much simpler…something that could not be done before.

Stay tuned for the installation of the public … (4 comments)

carlsbad village: Carlsbad is Getting a New Roundabout - 02/16/14 02:01 AM
Carlsbad is Getting a New Roundabout
Carlsbad is getting a new roundabout. In fact, it’s the first roundabout in Carlsbad.
We used to call them rotaries back in New England. And there were some pretty hairy ones.
I still remember rush hour traffic heading into the city and hitting the Route 2 rotary in Cambridge (it was eliminated and replaced with a series of intersections with lights). Rotaries are not built for the faint of heart, and aggressive drivers in Boston made the rotaries a real treat. The heck with the rules of the road – the first one to … (2 comments)

carlsbad village: Carlsbad, The Bike Friendly Town - 02/04/14 12:37 PM
Carlsbad, The Bike Friendly Town
I have renamed Carlsbad the bike friendly town.

It’s my own doing, but based on changes in the last couple of years which reflect that Carlsbad takes toward bicyclists I thinks it’s an apt descriptor.
Carlsbad is certainly not alone. There are many communities that promote bicycling and provide an atmosphere that encourage that mode of transportation, and safety for the bikers in a busy community with a fair amount of traffic and pedestrians.
Case in point…
Carlsbad has been installing sharrows for some time, and many streets are designated streets which are to be … (3 comments)

carlsbad village: Wall Art in Carlsbad Village in Carlsbad California - 05/21/13 01:25 PM
Wall Art in Carlsbad Village in Carlsbad California
There’s a new and cool piece of wall art in Carlsbad Village in Carlsbad California, on the north wall of the Witch Creek Winery Tasting Room, at the corner of Carlsbad Boulevard/Route 101 and Grand Avenue.

Carlsbad has a fine reputation as a community entrenched in the visual arts, with wall art being just one of many examples. The new addition to Carlsbad’s growing wall art collection by area artists was just recently completed, attracting lots of attention from residents and visitors alike.

The mural of 2 tigers … (20 comments)

carlsbad village: There is Free Parking in Carlsbad California - 04/17/13 01:44 PM
There is Free Parking in Carlsbad California
The title makes free parking in Carlsbad California, no doubt, sound pretty special.

The reality is that Carlsbad has a wealth of free parking, which is somewhat unusual, in my experience, for popular tourist destinations that get crowded.

Oh, that doesn’t mean you won’t have trouble finding parking, because it can get pretty busy in Carlsbad, especially in the Village and along the coast in particular on holidays and in the summer. But you won’t have to pay for it.

In Carlsbad Village you can park for free on the … (6 comments)

carlsbad village: Oceanfront Homes for Sale in Carlsbad in Carlsbad Village - 02/22/13 03:32 PM
Oceanfront Homes for Sale in Carlsbad in Carlsbad Village
Buyers interested in oceanfront homes for sale in Carlsbad have several areas they can explore to find the perfect home.

Where in Carlsbad Can I Buy an Oceanfront Home?

Because of the location of the Coast Highway (historic Route 101), a number of homes are not built directly on the ocean, although they may have stellar views from the east side of the road.

True Carlsbad oceanfront homes, where you can walk directly out the door and down the steps onto the beach, can be found in 2 areas, one along Ocean Street in … (6 comments)

New Oceanview Condos Coming to Carlsbad Village Area in Carlsbad California
Buyers interested in new condos for sale in Carlsbad listen up!

Construction is set to start in June 2013 on new oceanview condos in the Carlsbad Village area.

These 35 new condo homes are being built on the site of an existing multi-building apartment complex at the north end of Ocean Street near Carlsbad Village and reportedly will offer unobstructed views of the ocean and the Buena Vista Lagoon.
