We took a drive last night through the Ho Ho Highland neighborhood as it was getting dark to see all the Santas lit up…and one Grinch!
Then we took some time to explore a few other areas to see what we could discover. Quite a number of homeowners had gone all out with decorations and light displays - far too many to photograph.
The display on 2695 Medford Court (feature photo and video below) was the most impressive with elaborate lighting and coordinated music. There was quite a crowd in their cars as well as in front (14 comments)
I love the idea of Debbie Laity’s December ActiveRain Challenge for sharing our homes, or our communities for the holidays. So here goes.
We are still in the midst of decorating our new home (we’ve been there just about 4 weeks now) but the front is done. We tend to keep it simple, as you can see.
Inside decorating is still in process. But the carved bear on the stairway was decorated very early on. We’ve decided to have fun with the bear, even though it’s not (21 comments)
We just bought a new home in Carlsbad and moved in about 2 weeks about – home #10!
The home has some interesting architectural features and is in a great location for us, and being near my Mom who we moved into a condo a few months ago makes it a real plus.
As with many houses, there are some aspects of this property that are not to our liking. The storage could be better, as one example.
The one thing that really is not our (14 comments)
If you haven’t yet gotten rid of your Christmas tree in Carlsbad there is still time.
You can recycle your tree for free in Carlsbad in several ways if you do so by January 13th.
First, our Carlsbad trash service will pick up trees at your front yard with the normal weekly pick-up. Cut your tree so it will fit in the green recycle bin and place it at the curb. You can also cut it in half, bundle it, and leave out with the bins for pick-up.
I really enjoy this time of year, despite having the balance personal and business life which always seems to pack on more to do than at any other time.
As I suspect most of you do, we have a number of time-honored traditions at this time of year, and it wouldn’t feel like the holidays without them.
For 35 years we have been making our German honey lebkuchen cookies, 12 – 15 dozen each year and always made the Thanksgiving weekend.
When our kids were young and while they lived at home (7 comments)
The tallest pine tree in Encinitas, and reportedly the general area, located at Moonlight Beach, was decorated with lights recently, as it has been for 19 years.
I haven’t seen it close-up at night yet but surely will, and you can see it from quite a distance along the coast
There’s even a Santa Elmo at the base of the almost-100 foot tree!
This tree was planted back in 1942 and by all reports is the tallest in the area. The City of Encinitas pays the electric bill each year (4 comments)
The famous Leo Carrillo Historic Ranch Park will again host the Carlsbad Holiday at the Rancho tonight from 5 to 8 pm.
This is a fun event for all and a great opportunity to also see this wonderful preserved historic ranch, formerly the hacienda for TV and movie star Leo Carrillo.
Highlighting the fun will be face painting, cookie decorating, a tree lighting ceremony, pony rides, and of course the opportunity to visit with Santa Claus.
You’ll be able to get some shopping done at the (5 comments)
Like everywhere else I suspect, it’s beginning to look very festive in Carlsbad Village and surrounding areas.
On a quick jaunt around town the other day running business errands, with camera in tow of course, I snapped a few pics that caught my eye.
Clearly the retailers are well into celebrating the holiday season, as the Village in general is. Private citizenry, too. I’ll be adding to my personal collection of holiday shots over the next few weeks.
It’s time for Lite up Leucadia this Sunday night, December 1.
Lite up Leucadia will bring holiday cheer and spectacular lights to this charming, and funky, seaside community (part of Encinitas) just of Carlsbad along the Coast Highway.
Merchants in Leucadia (between La Costa Avenue at the north, to Encinitas Boulevard to the south) are all invited to participate in Lite up Leucadia, with lights hung from December 1 through January 1, 2014.
The public is invited to vote for their (2 comments)
Hard to believe but the holiday season is upon us once again.
So come one come all to the Cardiff Kringle Mingle next weekend. What a great way to start the holiday season (and to not interfere with Black Friday and Cyber Monday).
The 2013 Kringle Mingle, the 6th annual, will be held on Sunday December 8 from 1until 5 pm in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, sponsored by Cardiff 101 Mainstreet, and supported by the popular Seaside Market.
The Kringle Mingle will be held in the heart of (4 comments)
