Wordless Wednesday: Sunset Crow Show The crows were going nuts the other night outside our house...hundreds and hundreds in the trees, on all the neighbors' houses, in driveways, and in the road. It made for an interesting sunset. And a rather noisy one.
The recent sunsets have been particularly colorful...but there's quite a sad note to all this beauty.
Smoke from the massive fire in Orange County to our north is drifting west and out over the ocean, causing brilliant colors as the sun sets, but a painful reminder of what's still happening with the Bond Fire (now about 70% contained with over (18 comments)

We've been "enjoying," or perhaps I should say are entertained by, the nightly migration of the crows.
They start gathering in the trees by the hundreds across the canyon from our house in the evening, usually around dinner time. It takes 30 minutes or so for the community to assemble in the trees, with an occasional outburst of noise now and then caused by who knows what.
And then, usually while we are eating on the back patio, someone decides it's time to move on and they leave en masse, crowing loudly. The video did not turn out (but who really wants to (18 comments)
I suspect many know of and have seen the Hitchcock horror-thriller "The Birds" which took place in Bodega Bay, CA.
Everytime I see the flocks of crows near our house in Carlsbad I think of that movie, which is kinda spooky - I took this photo this evening while grilling.
They often fly overnight in large numbers in the evening, heading off to roost. I've seen a massive collection of them over by the Agua Hedionda Lagoon aat various time, and in recent days there's been several hundred of them in the trees on the other side of our (19 comments)
