You will know you are in a surfing community in Southern California when you see surfboards everywhere – under arms, on backs, sticking out of car windows, on the back of people on bicycles, being carried on skateboards, and hanging out the back of pick-up trucks and jeeps.
Other tell tale indications are surf shops, restaurants with a surfing theme, and the occasional surf signs.
Oh, and wetsuits hanging on cars, on clothes lines, and off balconies.

You Know You Are in a Golf Course Community When... The neighborhood grocery store has a special parking area for golf carts.
I was in the desert for a short get-a-way and these were at the local Stater Bros. in Palm Desert.
There are other signs, too. The small separate garage for storing the golf cart is one.
