jeff dowler: You asked What I Want for Mother's Day - 05/07/07 01:15 PM
As Mother's Day approaches I thought I would share some thoughts with you. These are NOT MINE, but those of my wife, Kay, who wrote the following. I cannot take any credit for this, other than to have asked for it to be shared publicly.
Perhaps it will inspire you personally.
Or you might share the notion with someone you love - children, siblings, friends and neighbors.
The tremendous power to do good in our world is at our fingertips, we need only share the idea so that others may be inspired to do what they can, and perhaps should.
This is not … (14 comments)

jeff dowler: La Costa (Carlsbad) Golf Course Homes - 04/28/07 03:16 AM
If you are looking for Carlsbad homes for sale, why not look in La Costa?
La Costa (zip code 92009) is an area of Southeast Carlsbad centered around the world-renowned La Costa Spa and Resort. This residential community if generally considered to be bordered on the west by El Camino Real, the north by Alga Road, the south by Olivenhain Boulevard, and the east by Rancho Santa Fe Road. In addition to a number of neighborhoods, the majority of Carlsbad's master planned communities are here - the La Costa Villages (La Costa Oaks, La Costa Greens and La Costa Ridge [the newest]), … (7 comments)

jeff dowler: Market Data for JAN. Through FEB. 2007 - Rancho Santa Fe, CA - 04/24/07 02:44 AM
Here are the summary statistics from the MLS for Rancho Santa Fe for January, February and March 2007. There are some things to note. [photo is of the Rancho Santa Fe Inn]
Rancho Santa Fe is a unique community in that the prices are very high, marketing times are long, and inventory of attached homes is very limited. Thus you will see some data are not available for the early part of the year for attached homes because none have sold. Because of the high prices, the median and average can shift quite a bit from month to month.
The inventory of Rancho Santa … (1 comments)

jeff dowler: Flowers and Dessert in One Place in Encinitas - An Intriguing Combination - 04/23/07 03:05 AM
I love desserts, at least most of them. Especially chocolate. I don't have much self-discipline in that arena, and now, combined with a fondness for gardening, it will be even harder to steer away from chocolate, and other desserts.
Residents of Encinitas and surrounding communities like Carlsbad and Cardiff-be-the-Sea now have a place they can indulge in their passion for gardening AND desserts. A unique combo, but it works...and very well.
Sunshine Gardens, on the edge of Encinitas Ranch, is well known throughout the area for a great selection of flowers and plants, and good pricing. [by the way the photo is NOT … (2 comments)

jeff dowler: Market Data for MARCH 2007 - Encinitas, CA - 04/10/07 10:49 AM
Here are the summary market data for Encinitasfrom the MLS for March 2007. [photo is the entrance to the stairs leading to Swami's Beachin south Encinitas, perhaps the most well known surfing beach in the area - see link BELOW for a review of Encinitas Ranch, a master planned community in Encinitas]
A few interesting things to point out. First, the inventory, while up slightly from last month (about 2%), is still substantially lower than it was at the end of November. Second, the rate of sales has gone up a little, and there is now less than a 6-month supply of … (1 comments)

jeff dowler: Idyllwild, California - A Hiker's Paradise - 04/02/07 03:22 AM

I spent part of the weekend in Idyllwild, an arts town in the Santa Rosa Mountains, about 90 miles inland. The town is also known for offering some of the best hiking around (next time, perhaps).

These photos are of Suicide Rock, as seen from Humber Park, the start of one of the more difficult trails in the area. While we didn't see any, this peak is a popular rock climbing challenge.
I posted an article about Idyllwild on my Fans of Coastal San Diego blog if you are interested in reading more about this cool town.

jeff dowler: Fabulous Moonlight Beach in Paradise - Encinitas, CA (carnival) - 03/27/07 12:21 PM
Moonlight Beach, located at the end of Encinitas Boulevard and just west of the Coast Highway/Route 101 in Encinitas (link is to a visual tour with music) is a terrific beach that appeals to a broad spectrum of folks, from residents to vacationers of all ages.
In the heart of a residential area, but just a short walk to all the shopping and restaurants of Encinitas itself along the coastal highway, this popular beach offers something for everyone, no matter what your favorite activity. The beach is so named due the its popularity as a"moonlight" picnic spot in the early 1900s.

jeff dowler: "Impossible to Forget" in Carlsbad, CA - 03/26/07 04:26 PM
Impossible to Forget is a haunting, sobering, powerful, and stunning black and white photography show that just opened in Carlsbad at the well-known Cannon Art Gallery, adjacent to the public library. [the photograph here is taken from the artist's personal website and appears in the show]
I have been very impressed with the art offerings that this thriving town of 95,000 offers here in Southern California, which I call home, and it is one of the many things that attracts people to buy a home in Carlsbad.
In addition to the gallery (which offers multiple programs a year including family craft days [free] … (5 comments)

jeff dowler: Home Buyers and The Buyer Presentation | How Do You Benefit (Part 1 of 2)? - 03/18/07 04:50 PM
This is the first in a 2-part series on buyer presentations:
1. Why you should have one
2. What you should expect from a presentation
If you are a first time home buyer, you need to learn a lot about the process of buying a home. And you likely have a zillion questions to be answered. Plus, as a first step, you need to decide who you want to work with in the purchase process. There are lots of agents out there, some good, some not.
How do you choose?
I've talked before about choosing a REALTOR (some articles have to do … (13 comments)

jeff dowler: Buyers - What Are You Afraid Of? - 03/10/07 12:45 PM
This article is primarily oriented toward first time buyers. However, for those of you who are experienced, I suspect some or all of these concerns have crossed your mind at one point or another as you go about your business of finding a new home in Carlsbad or anywhere else, for that matter.
So, what ARE you afraid of? What are the concerns that you have? Are these realistic or not? And how can you address them?
Fear of buying in the first place - if this is your first home you may be scared of making that big decision, and take on … (2 comments)

jeff dowler: Want to Live in A Musical Community? Try the Composer District - Cardiff - 03/06/07 04:33 PM
Nestled on the hill facing the grand Pacific Ocean, just north of Birmingham Avenue, lies an area of Cardiff (Cardiff-by-the-Sea - links to the city website) known as the Composer District.

This neighborhood of detached and attached homes and condos was developed in the early 1900s by Victor Kremer, a music publisher and land developer.

Because of his fondness for music, the streets in this area are all named after composers (Rubenstein, Gershwin, Bach, Mozart, Liszt, Verdi, Chopin, Vivaldi, Haydn, Schubert, Rossini, and Brahms).

There are several other streets in the Composer District area that migrate from adjacent areas (Summit, Westminster, Stratford, San … (7 comments)

jeff dowler: Are You Relocating to Carlsbad and Need to Find a Great Agent? (Part 1 of 2) - 02/21/07 01:37 AM
Are you relocating here to Carlsbad, or elsewhere, and need to find a great agent to help you? It is well worth the effort to spend time finding someone to help you find a new home in an area you do not know.
I have some thoughts on how to find that person AND what to look for, based on some significant personal moving experience, and having helped a few folks relocate around the country. Let's talk about how to find the right REALTOR®.
HOW TO FIND AN AGENT
1. I think it makes sense to use an agent who is a REALTOR® (a real estate professional who is a … (3 comments)

jeff dowler: It Rained in Long Beach, California Today! - 02/07/07 03:04 PM
It Rained in Long Beach, California Today!

Your first thought MIGHT be - big deal, rain in CA. Well, here in paradise it often IS a big deal. We can go months without rain and then all of a sudden it happens, and everyone freaks out on the freeways. And we get mudslides, etc.

But that's not what this is about.

I just got back from the Blogging Conference up in LB starring Rain City Guide master, Dustin Luther. Dustin's "hold on to your seats" rapid-fire talk was inspiring, filled with tips, advices, cautions, wisdom, and much more. It was entertaining! Insightful! For someone … (23 comments)
