The owls have been pretty active recently, and one has been hanging out in a dead tree in the canyon behind our house since yesterday morning. We can see it pretty clearly although it's a couple of hundred feet away.
Two of the grandkids are visiting so it's been fun for them to see. And we hear it quite clearly at night and in the early morning.
The crows are not at all happy that it's there and seem to delight in dive-bombing the tree in the evening during their crow show. The owl is not fazed.
I was out running errands, and stopped at the Wild Birds Unlimited Store in Carlsbad to load up on thistle seed for the finches, and more hummingbird/oriole nectar - we've been told people are starting to see the orioles around again so we want to be prepared with nectar, and the grape jelly they love, at the feeders.
There was a wildlife protection organization there with 3 owls - a Great Horned Owl, a Barn Owl, and a Screech Owl, talking about what they do and answering questions about the owls. We hear the … (13 comments)
