- 04/18/18 06:22 PM
Wordless Wednesday Carlsbad Village Painted Utility Box Carlsbad Village has a wide range of public art, which also includes their fire hydrants and utility boxes, painted by local artists. These are scattered around town and readily visible - this one is on Carlsbad Village Drive. I'm guessing there are at least a dozen. This photo was taken back in 2008 but I'm not sure when the boxes were painted. More about the fire hydrants tomorrow.

public art in carlsbad: Stone Sculpture at the Beach in Carlsbad - First Day of 2018
- 01/01/18 12:09 PM
Stone Sculpture at the Beach in Carlsbad Artistry can show its face in many ways, and in interesting places, sometimes when least expected. We took a long walk along the beach on the boardwalk in Carlsbad this morning to start off the new year. There were lots of people out, many with dogs, enjoying our beautiful weather...a balmy 58 degrees and partially sunny!! Along the path we came across this gentleman who was creating some stone sculptures. This cluster of 3 was done, but he was still workingon another so I left him alone. No doubt they will be there for a few days,

public art in carlsbad: Wordless Wednesday: A Stone Sculpture Exhibit in Carlsbad
- 09/28/16 05:40 AM
Stone Sculptures in Carlsbad I wrote a post back in May about creating your own rock sculptures in Carlsbad. These artistic endeavors have been common at Cardiff State Beach but I hadn't seen any until a few months ago in Carlsbad. At the time I stopped by for some photos while out walking. But since that time clearly many more beach-goers have gotten inspired as there is now quite an exhibit of rock scultpures in place (well more than 20). Perhaps some folks even saw my post! I didn't have time to add my own but might just have to do that. It's nice to see that

public art in carlsbad: Build Your Own Rock Sculpture in Carlsbad
- 05/20/16 02:56 AM
You Can Build Your Own Rock Sculpture in Carlsbad I was out along the beach in Carlsbad the other day and spied this series of rock sculptures. Some creative visitors, or residents, decided to use some of the stones that provide protection from erosion and create these stone sculptures. No doubt they will come and go as others come along and modify them, or create their own from scratch. Many of the stones are too large to lift but there is a decent supply of usable stones. Not sure if the city condones this public art in Carlsbad, or even cares, but it was

public art in carlsbad: Wall Art in the Barrio in Carlsbad California
- 03/28/15 10:42 AM
Wall Art in the Barrio in Carlsbad California We walked through part of the Barrio in Carlsbad this morning on our way to breakfast at our favorite place, Café Elysa. Traffic and parking was a chore today because of the Carlsbad 5000 festivities, so we parked some distance away and did a bit of walking. The Barrio and Carlsbad Village are the 2 earliest neighborhoods in Carlsbad. The Barrio dates back to around 1918. Many of its residents are descendents of those who escaped the Mexican Revolution which began in 1910. At the center of
