southern california relocation dude: The Terramar Neighborhood – The Ultimate Beach Life in Carlsbad
- 01/28/18 04:46 PM
The Terramar Community in Carlsbad Live the Beach Life The community of Terramar is a pretty special neighborhood in Carlsbad, where Cannon Road meets the Coast Highway/Route 101 and south of the Encinas Power Plant. If you want to live at the beach in Carlsbad, and especially to have an ocean-front home, this may be the place for you, provided you have the budget. Ocean-front living is not inexpensive, and true beach front homes are limited (you will find other ocean-view homes in Carlsbad but a number of them are on the east of the Coast Road and not true beach-front although the

southern california relocation dude: Carlsbad Village Neighborhood – Homes, Shopping, Dining and the Beach
- 01/24/18 09:03 PM
The Carlsbad Village Neighborhood Housing, Shopping, Dining and the Beach Lifestyle The Carlsbad Village neighborhood is certainly one of the more diverse in Carlsbad in terms of the amenities, and the wide range of housing opportunities. Living in or near the Village has a strong appeal for many who want the beach life but also easy access to all the Village has to offer – restaurants, abundant shopping, wine bars, spas, galleries, the New Village Arts Theater, and so much more. The train station offers Amtrak trains north to LA and beyond and south to San Diego, as well as the Coaster commuter

southern california relocation dude: Throwback Thursday: Selfie Spot at Ventura Harbor
- 01/18/18 06:07 PM
Selfie Spot at Ventura Harbor For some reason today I found myself thnking about a wonderful weekend we spend at a resort at Ventura Harbor with our daughter, her husband and our 2 year-old granddaughter last August. We had a great time exploring the area around the harbor - to the delight of the little one - as well as other areas of this seaside community. Social media has invaded our lives in many ways, and there were several Selfie Spots painted in the walkway which, not surprisingly, attracted a number of takers. We did not partake - I'm not a selfie fan

The Carlsbad Farmers Market The Carlsbad Farmers Market, also known as the State Street Farmers Market, is a regular event in Carlsbad, happening every week on WEDNESDAY in downtown Carlsbad Village along State Street. The market is set up in the street between Carlsbad Village Drive and Grand Avenue, with rows of vendors on each site of the street. And of course all the retailers and eateries on the street are open too, so it becomes quite a shopping expedition. The Italian Market sometimes has freebies to try! In the winter months, with shorter days, the Carlsbad Farmers Market is open from 3

southern california relocation dude: The Meditation Gardens in Encinitas – The Last Day of Fall 2017
- 12/22/17 10:15 AM
The Meditation Gardens in Encinitas The Last Day of Fall 2017 I was out running some errands, including upgrading my Supra Key needed for a new listing in Temecula (a different county) in a couple of weeks, and stopped by the Meditation Gardens at the Self-Realization Fellowship in Encinitas in my way home. The Gardens are beautiful, and being perched on the bluff above the ocean also offer spectacular views of the ocean far below. Steps leading to the Meditation Gardens It was a gorgeous day, the last day of Fall, and the gardens were pretty quiet, with only a few visitors. I don’t get

southern california relocation dude: The Cardiff Kook Celebrates Christmas for 2017
- 12/21/17 08:36 PM
The Cardiff Kook Celebrates Christmas 2017 The Cardiff Kook has gained some notoriety in the area since the surfing statue was first installed in Cardiff 10 years ago. The notoriety comes from the fact that it is often decorated to fit with the current holiday or in other ways – a treat for many, but something that often irritates others, including those who don’t like the statue to begin with! Or the name it's been unofficially given. I like this Christmas offering, but I have to say my favorite, which garnered a LOT of attention, was when the Cardiff Kook celebrated the Royal

southern california relocation dude: A Holiday Tree by the Beach in Carlsbad
- 12/19/17 05:42 PM
Holiday Tree at the Beach I was out running errands, and being such a beautiful day, and having a few moments of spare time, I decided to enjoy a walk on the beach at Terramar and then a short drive down the Coast Road/Carlsbad Boulevard. I was going to make a u-turn to head back to the Village when I spied this Holiday Tree by the Beach and couldn't resist stopping. So cool that someone, perhaps multiple people, took a few moments to decorate this gnarly tree on the bluff overlooking the beach and the Coast Road.

southern california relocation dude: Not Throwback Thursday but Real Thursday: Carlsbad Sunset
- 11/30/17 06:26 PM
Carlsbad Sunset I was in Carlsbad Village tonight to buy some fresh swordfish for the grill for my dinner, and a couple of pints of gelato from my favorite gelato store, Gaia Gelato. The sky was simply stunning as sunset approached and I took a few minutes to go over to the beach to enjoy a stunning display. It was truly amazing, with constantly changing colors over the 15 minutes I stood there. There were lots of people standing along the boardwalk and on the beach, as well as surfers, taking in nature's beauty. I'm so glad I took a few minutes to

Go Ice Skating by the Sea at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego Once again it’s time to enjoy the very popular Skating by the Sea at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego, the 13th consecutive year. And it’s the only beachfront ice skating in San Diego! For those of you in colder climates, imagine ice skating under a bright blue sky with the sun shining, palm trees waving, and the beautiful beach and ocean just steps away!? While you may need a sweater, especially with ocean breezes, typically at this time of year you can expect temps in high 50s
