As agents we have a ton of responsibilities with any transaction, even before a listing has gotten an offer and we are on the way through the due diligence period. The town of Del Mar ("of the sea" or "by the sea") is located about 15 miles north of San Diego along the coast north of La Jolla and south of Solana Beach. And, as they say, it's where the "turf meets the surf."
Apart from the charming village and expensive ocean-front and view properties, Del Mar is probably best known for the Del Mar Racetrack and Fair Grounds, which means the annual San Diego County Fair and the very popular thoroughbred horse races, popular for decades. More on that later.
San Marcos, in San Diego's North County, is located about 6 miles inland from the ocean, and about 30 miles from the downtown San Diego.
The community covers about 24 square miles and, as of the 2021 census, had about 95,000 residents. Census data also indicate a fairly diverse population.
San Marcos, because of its inland location, tends to offer a somewhat warmer climate than adjacent Carlsbad, although the west side of San Marcos gets some of the same coastal weather (marine layer, ocean breezes, cooler temperatures).
