We all know how important staying in touch with past clients is in order to remain top of mind for potential future business, referrals, and just because!
 
There are lots of ways to do this depending on personal preferences, and in some cases budget:
 
Newsletters, calls, pop bys, emails, text messaging, holiday cards, birthday cards (I also send Un-Birthday cards at the beginning of every year), anniversary cards, Mother’s and Father’s Day cards, House-a-Versary cards, letters, periodic market reports, congratulations on special events you learn about, social media (especially Facebook and Instragram), … (32 comments)

One of the things I have tried to do over the years is stay in touch with past clients.
 
I realize in the early years this was not something I did very well, despite knowing, and being told, it was important to do.
 
I don’t have a good excuse for why that was the case…I suppose, in part, it was just not viewed as a priority, although it certainly should have been.
 
And it definitely had not gotten to be a good habit.

A marketing email I got yesterday, and still haven’t read, asked this question. It started me thinking.
 
Of course I want to be memorable, don’t you? And in a positive way, not because of doing a bad job during the transaction. There are abundant opportunities to become memorable before and during transaction, as well as after.
 
BEING MEMORABLE BEFORE & DURING THE TRANSACTION
Communication – even before you meet in person your communication can start you on the way to being memorable, simply by being an effective and consistent communicator.
 
Why? Because so many people aren’t.

Happy Unbirthday Birthday Cards Went out in the Mail
 
As another way of staying in touch, I just mailed out a bunch of Happy Unbirthday Birthday Cards to current and past clients, in addition to the other cards (Thanksgiving, Holiday, closing anniversary) I send.
 
While I have some clients’ birthday dates, it’s only a handful, and since EVERYONE has a birthday this year I thought I would pass along a Happy Birthday wish even though I don’t know the actual date.
 
 
 
And yes, I may have already missed a birthday, but it’s the thought, and staying in touch, that matters.
