thankfulness: Grateful for My Home - 11/19/23 11:11 AM
I'm Thankful for my Home

This is my second entry for the November Gratitude Challenge hosted by Debe Maxwell, CRS.

Those 4 simple words in the title mean ever so much to me, and no doubt for others who own their homes. Indeed, it goes beyond owning a home but would include a rental. But for this post, the focus is on my gratitude for home ownership.

I’m in my 10th primary house (there have been a couple vacation homes, too) that I have owned – perhaps not a lot compared to many others, but the number doesn’t matter. This is all about the … (24 comments)

thankfulness: I’m Thankful for my Physical Therapist - 11/25/21 02:43 PM
I’m Ever so Thankful for my Physical Therapist

I have chronic neck and back issues that have plagued me for decades due to a curve in my spine and neck, and have periods of pain, sometimes significant, lasting weeks at a time. But I don’t let it curtail my life activities and try to ignore it as much as I can, and getting some exercise plus seeing a chiropractor regularly has been a big help for many years now.

I recently completed a round of 14 physical therapy sessions at the recommendation of my doctor following a bout of particularly tough pain for … (26 comments)

thankfulness: I'm Thankful for Special Friends - 11/23/21 08:50 PM
Thankful for Special Friends

A long call tonight with a dear friend we have known and been close to for 27 years inspired this thankful post.

We all have people in our lives that we consider friends…some more casual relationships than others but they are all important in our lives in a variety of ways nonetheless . But some friendships seem to be special in particular.

It’s not necessarily the length of time, although some very special friendships have lasted for decades. My wife has a very dear friend she’s known since 3rd grade! We have close friends we met when our daughters were … (18 comments)

thankfulness: Thankful for our Christmas Cookie Tradition - 11/20/21 11:45 AM
Grateful for our Long-standing Cookie Tradition

My wife and I have a long-standing cookie-making tradition…in fact decades of cookie making! And I'm thankful for it every year!!

For years we made these German Honey Lebkuchen all in one day (the dough is always made the day before so it has time to chill), but in recent years we sometimes have stretched it out, where we have made some in Carlsbad and then schlepped the dough and everything else needed up to LA to make cookies with our 2 daughters and their families now that the grandkids are older and want to help.

I learned … (22 comments)

thankfulness: Gratitude for Grandkids That Let Me Play Like a Kid - 11/24/19 02:18 PM
I’m thankful I can still play like a kid!

We became grandparents for the first time 8 years ago, and now there are 4 – aged 8, almost 6, 4 and ½, and 2 (3 are girls). At the time our first one was born I really had no idea how much I would enjoy being a grandparent, and how special the relationships we have with our 2 daughters and their husbands and the 4 grandkids who live in LA would become.

As the grandkids have gotten older and their language and other skills have improved I’m thankful I can still play like … (22 comments)

I’m Thankful for our Carlsbad Beaches

Debbie Reynolds is sponsoring the Thanksgiving Challenge that ends today, Thanksgiving Day, with abundant opportunities for us to share why we are thankful and for what! This is such a thoughtful challenge, and it’s been fun to read about the thanks flowing around ActiveRain and the country!

For the last post, I’m thankful for our Carlsbad beaches!

My town of Carlsbad is basically one big beach - 7 miles long – at the edge of the continent. There are a number of different areas, with names (Tamarack Beach, South Ponto State Beach, North Ponto State Beach, Hole … (19 comments)

thankfulness: I’m Thankful for my Home Office in Carlsbad - 11/21/18 12:01 PM
I’m Thankful for my Home Office

In thinking about Debbie Reynolds’ Thanksgiving Challenge, in my home office, it occurred to me, once again, how grateful I am to work at home and to have a dedicated room for my desk, multiple file cabinets, all the tech stuff – laptop, ipad, 3-way printer – a storage closet, and more.

I worked in the corporate world for about 20 years in Human Resources and always had a dedicated office. And in those days telecommuting was somewhat rare, and in my various roles my presence was needed in the office. So I got used to spending … (20 comments)

thankfulness: I’m Thankful for my Patience - 11/20/18 12:42 PM
I’m Thankful for my Patience

Debbie Reynolds has challenged us to share the things we are thankful for in her Thanksgiving Challenge. You still have 3 more days (counting today) to get your entries in, 1 per day, for those thankful extra points!

I’m pretty thankful for my patience! I’ve been told that I’m very patient when working with buyers and sellers, especially when there are lots of questions, issues arise, or emotions are running high! It's important, don't you think, even if you aren't naturally a patient individual.

I think, in general, I am pretty patient about most things, business wise and personal. … (11 comments)

thankfulness: I’m Thankful for All Those Who are Working Today! - 11/23/17 10:43 AM
I’m Thankful for All Those Who are Working Today!

I just thanked a young woman at Frazier Farms in Oceanside for working today.

I was there to pick up a turkey (yes, for the very first time we decided, with all that’s going on and only the 3 of us, a partially cooked turkey was the way to go this year  - we’ll doctor it up and prepare some other dishes, too) and I wanted her to know I appreciated she was there. It brought a big smile to her face and a warm thank you.

Think of how many others are working today. … (31 comments)

thankfulness: I’m Thankful for What I've Learned from Other Agents - 11/22/17 01:11 PM
I’m Thankful to Learn from Other Agents

There’s no doubt we have the opportunity to learn a lot in our business – from each transaction, from the classes and webinars we take, from training provided by our brokerages, from our clients, and from other agents.

Whether the agents are terrific, average, or incompetent, there is something to learn. First, the positives:

Communication – I’ve learned how important it is, no matter what form it takes, and the timing is key. Some agents are very impressive with how they communicate, what , and where, and this is helpful to keep in mind for my own … (29 comments)

I’m so thankful for my homes. You might think by that I mean I have several, but I don’t. Just 1 right now. But it’s more about the opportunities my wife and I have had to share multiple houses with each other over many years of marriage in 4 different states.

thankfulness: So Thankful Our New Granddaughter is OK - 11/19/17 09:40 PM
So Thankful Our New Granddaughter is OK

The 4th, and newest grandbaby, arrived 2 weeks ago today while I was in Chicago, but hanging out at the airport and heading home. All went well and as expected, and Mom and baby Sage came home 24 hours later.

Dad and big sister came down with colds early last week, and unfortunately Sage developed a fever this past Thursday evening. My daughter was concerned, and rightly so, that there was a fever of over 100, and after talking with the doctor very late that night took her baby to the ER. ER was also concerned … (22 comments)

Thankful for All San Diego Computer Repair

I’m so thankful for my computer guy, All San Diego Computer Repair.

Although I have to qualify that by saying I’m even more thankful I don’t have to get in touch with him very often. I’m probably jinxing myself by admitting that, but oh well.

I met Eric as part of a networking group in Encinitas a few years back, along with several other vendors I have continued to use, and refer to others.

Eric has helped on multiple occasions when technology has failed me, which of course it does from time to time, or acted up in … (23 comments)
