things to do: Have You Ever Had a Donut Peach? Vista Farmers Market Find - 06/11/16 08:31 AM
Vista Farmers Market Donut Peaches

and Other Finds

We went to the Vista Farmers Market this morning for breakfast and for some fresh fruits and vegetables.

I noticed these donut peaches, which, in doing some research, I learned are a natural genetic mutation which causes them to be flat and resemble donuts. No, they don't taste like that at all.

As always there was a wide array of fruits, vegetables (we bought some wonderfil heirloom tomatoes for salads), flowers and a host of foods and places to eat (Mexican, Polish perogi, French, Italian, Brazilian, West African), rather a mini mall which included all sorts … (34 comments)

Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner Now Stops in Carlsbad

There’s more good news on the public transportation front in Carlsbad – Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner, which travels along the coast from San Diego to Los Angeles, and then on to Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo, now stops in Carlsbad (both Carlsbad Village and Poinsettia Stations) 3 times per day.

In the past travelers had to go north to Oceanside to catch the Surfliner, or grab it in Solana Beach.

This is not NEW news, since the Surfliner had been stopping here since last fall, but I find many residents and … (10 comments)

Beacon's Beach in Leucadia (Encinitas) - A Favorite for Surfers

Beacon's Beach, below the bluff along Neptune Avenue in Leucadia, is a favorite spot for viewing, for surfing, and for just enjoying the beach.

The hike down is pretty steep , as you can see, but the path is decent and there are a few stairs. Much easier going down than up.

Parking is somewhat limited in the small lot, and tough when the weather is really nice. but you can generally find parking along Neptune or one of the sside streets. Worth … (5 comments)

More Public Art in Carlsbad – A New Mural in Downtown Carlsbad Village

Public art is growing in many communities, and Carlsbad California is no exception.

Carlsbad even has an interactive public art map so you can find it all!

The famed La Costa Resort and Spa has been a fixture in Carlsbad, and known around the world as a premier golf and spa destination, for decades.
The La Costa Resort was acquired by Omni Hotels last year and is now known as the Omni La Costa Resort, certainly not news for anyone in the nearby residential area or who pays attention to such things.

A Visit to Ponte Winery in Temecula’s Wine Country, Temecula California

The Ponte Winery in Temecula’s wine country has been, for a number of years, one of our favorite places to visit, and is rather popular among local and visitors from around Southern California judging by the crowds.

Ponte Winery has a lively wine tasting, often very crowded especially in the summer months on weekends.

Their outdoor restaurant is a wonderful place to dine with beautiful views of the gardens, the vineyards, and the mountains in the distance. They offer lunch daily with dinner Friday and Saturday. … (6 comments)

Tallest Pine Tree in Encinitas Gets Decorated

The tallest pine tree in Encinitas, and reportedly the general area, located at Moonlight Beach, was decorated with lights recently, as it has been for 19 years.

I haven’t seen it close-up at night yet but surely will, and you can see it from quite a distance along the coast

There’s even a Santa Elmo at the base of the almost-100 foot tree!

This tree was planted back in 1942 and by all reports is the tallest in the area. The City of Encinitas pays the electric bill each year … (4 comments)
