The Carlsbad Village Faire is Coming to Carlsbad CA on Sunday May 6, 2012

It’s time again for San Diego County’s largest street fair, the Carlsbad Village Faire, being held this Sunday, May 6 in Carlsbad Village.

The Carlsbad Village Faire, the nation’s largest 1-day street fair, is held along the main road, Carlsbad Village Drive, and spills over onto side streets including Grand Avenue.

The Carlsbad Village Faire (one of two each year) is an amazing outdoor event, from 8 am until 5 pm with something for everyone. Typically 100,000 attend this fair, with over … (5 comments)

things to do in carlsbad: Stand Up Paddle Boarding – The Carlsbad Stand Up Paddle Board Club - 04/29/12 03:34 AM
Stand Up Paddle Boarding – The Carlsbad Stand Up Paddle Board Club
For those preferring a calmer way to get around on the water instead of surfing, stand up paddle boarding may be just your thing.

It’s supposedly pretty easy to do, relaxing and good exercise. And all you need is a board, a paddle and you’re ready.

Stand-up paddle boarding has become very popular in our area, on the ocean and on the Aqua Hedionda Lagoon where it’s allowed (the 2 other Carlsbad lagoons do not allow any sort of boating, swimming, etc.). It seems … (5 comments)

things to do in carlsbad: The Carlsbad Skatepark in Carlsbad CA - 04/13/12 01:04 PM
The Carlsbad Skatepark in Carlsbad CA

Like a number of Southern California communities, Carlsbad offers a skate (skateboard) park for enthusiasts to enjoy their sport and challenge themselves on curved and flat ramps, bowls, pyramids, and other terrains skateboarders enjoy. The Carlsbad Skatepark is ranked as being good for beginners.

The Carlsbad Skatepark, built in 2001, is a 10,500 SF facility and park (lighted) on the hills near the Safety Center. There are some great views up here, but no doubt skateboarders have other things on their mind besides views, except perhaps watching each other.

The Carlsbad Marathons are always popular, with world class runners and plenty of viewers along the course, a significant portion of which is along the beautiful Carlsbad coastline on the historic Route 101/Coast Road (a.k.a. Carlsbad Boulevard).

And of course how many places can you run a marathon in January and not freeze your you-know-what?!

things to do in carlsbad: Favorite Sweet Shops and Bakeries in the Carlsbad CA Area - 11/28/11 02:18 AM
Favorite Sweet Shops and Bakeries in the Carlsbad CA Area

Friends and family who know me are well aware of my penchant for sugary concoctions, especially if chocolate is involved. I’ve never met a chocolate I didn’t like, so far, although the better quality the chocolate the happier I am.
Chocolates, desserts, and baked goods go hand in hand, in my opinion, and knowing where to go to get them, when making something simply is not on the agenda or laziness sets it, or just because, is essential.
So, with that in mind, and to satisfy other sweet fanciers in … (12 comments)

things to do in carlsbad: A Walk on the Carlsbad Boardwalk - 10/29/11 03:32 PM
A walk along the Carlsbad boardwalk at the edge of the continent is a tremendous pleasure particularly with the weather we are enjoying right now.
OK, so it's not really a "boardwalk" as one finds along the Jersey shore or Coney Island, but concrete.
And it's not lined by shops and restaurants as I recall part of the NJ board walk to be, especially in Ocean City and Atlantic City.
But having a place to stroll along the beach to enjoy the views of the ocean, the neighborhoods, and the Coast Road is pretty special.
And given the number of people out … (11 comments)

A Visit to a Bit O’ Britain in Carlsbad Village, Carlsbad CA
This post was inspired by a recent post by my Brit friend in NJ, Sheldon Neal, who discovered a new source for crumpets in his neighborhood.

Since I have driven by a Bit O’ Britain in Carlsbad Village a number of times without stopping in, Sheldon’s post prompted me to stop by and see if they, too, had crumpets, among other Britishy sorts of stuff.

And they did!

This post is also dedicated to some good British friends, Anthony Kelly here in Encinitas, … (10 comments)

things to do in carlsbad: Cannon Art Gallery in Carlsbad CA | July - September 2011 Exhibit "Almost Alice" - 07/22/11 04:06 AM
"Almost Alice - New Illustrations of Wonderland by Maggie Taylor" at the Cannon Art Gallery in CarlsbadThe newest exhibit at the William D. Cannon Art Gallery iin Carlsbad, the city-owned gallery, is wonderful.
"Almost Alice - New Illustrations of Wonderland by Maggie Taylor" is a whimsical, yet surreal pictorial of Lewis Carroll's classic Victorian tale of "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and will surely delight adults and children alike. There are probably not too many who have not, at some point, read about Alice's adventures - probably multiple times - and this exhibit will take you on a fanciful journey back in time. … (10 comments)

things to do in carlsbad: Agua Hedionda Lagoon Discovery Center in Carlsbad CA - 06/15/11 03:20 PM
Agua Hedionda Lagoon Discovery Center in Carlsbad CaliforniaThe Agua Hedionda Lagoon Discovery Center in Carlsbad is well worth a visit.
Carlsbad is blessed with 3 lagoons (Batiquitos, Buena Vista, and Agua Hedionda) - thankfully all preserved, especially important these days when we have seen so many California lagoons destroyed by development and other factors including environmental.
The Agua Hedionda Lagoon is in the middle, just north of the power plant and 1 mile south of Carlsbad Village, and actually consists of 3 areas - one with a fish hatchery and mussel/abalone aquaculture facility, one for recreational boating (the only lagoon in Carlsbad that … (8 comments)

The Best of North County Party 2011 - A Photo Recap
We had the pleasure of attending The Best of North County Party 2011 at the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort in Carlsbad last night, with about 2000 other party-goers. It was a blast!

The party was a celebration of all that North San Diego County has to offer - dining, shopping, wineries, services, health and wellness, and so much more.
