wordless wednesdays: Wordless Wednesday: Just Hangin' Out
- 07/15/20 09:11 PM
Wordless Wednesday: Just Hangin' Out We live adjacent to a small canyon which means a fair amount of wildlife, some of which visits the yard from time to time. I was looking out the rear window over the patio the other morning and spied this ground squirrel hangin' out. He was perched on his haunches, on top of the bushes, taking in the scenery...and perhaps keeping an eye out for predators, like the coyote we have been seeing regularly. Better this squirrel stays where he is instead of raiding our birdfeeders or digging in the gardens!

wordless wednesdays: Wordless Wednesday: Words of Hope
- 05/27/20 06:29 PM
Wordless Wednesday: Words of Hope Hope Elementary School in the Carlsbad School District is close to my house and we often walk by. School is coming to an end for Carlsbad students on June 11th and signs have started appearing in the front of the school to thank the teachers, etc. I thought the play on words of some of the signage, given the school name, was cool. And this little poem a la Dr. Seuss was clever - a sign of the times!! Nice to see some words of Hope these days!

wordless wednesdays: Wordless Wednesday: The Roadrunner Came for Breakfast
- 03/04/20 10:35 AM
Wordless Wednesday: The Roadrunner Came for Breakfast I just happened to be looking out the back upstairs window yesterday morning and spied the Roadrunner in our backyard. He (or she) had come for breakfast and had snared one of the lizards we often see in our yard. If you've not seen one, they are quite large - about 2 feet from beak to tip of tail - and run quite fast. S/he wandered around the yard with the lizard dangling for about 10 minutes, then finally jumped onto the fence and left. Hope it enjoyed breakfast wherever it decided to dine!

wordless wednesdays: Wordless Wednesday: The Crow Show in Carlsbad
- 07/10/19 11:50 AM
Wordless Wednesday The Crow Show in Carlsbad We have a Crow Show every evening around dinner time. Here's an example of a recent performance over the July 4th holiday when the grandkids were visiting - they thought it was great fun! We have lots of birds visiting our yard during the day - mourning doves, hooded orioles (May to September), several types of finches, quail, scrub jays, an occasional red tailed hawk, vireos, black-headed grosbeaks, spotted towhees, and the ever-present hummingbirds (several different species). Thankfully the crows tend to only hang around in the evening...but it's fun to see them dive-bomb and chase the

wordless wednesdays: Wordless Wednesday: Hummingbird Hawk-Moth at the Beach in Carlsbad
- 04/03/19 06:13 PM
Wordless Wednesday: Hummingbird Hawk-Moth at the Beach in Carlsbad We were at the beach one evening several weeks ago, just before the 1st day of Spring, to take in a beautiful sunset. In addition to capturing some gorgeous views, I also spied this Hummingbird Hawk-Moth on these bright purple flowers on the bluff. I only had my iPhone so the photo is not as good as I would have hoped...and it moved pretty fast.

wordless wednesdays: Wordless Wednesday: Another Beautiful Day in Sunny Carlsbad CA
- 02/06/19 10:34 AM
Wordless Wednesday Another Beautiful Day in Sunny Carlsbad CA It started on as another beautiful and sunny day here in Carlsbad, looking out from my back patio. Chilly for us, too, at 41 degrees. We have lots of sunny days, but they have been few and far between in the last week or so due to all the rain. We are so thankful to have had the rain so desparately needed, despite flooding and other issues, although shlepping up and down the freeway in the rain and traffic multiple times has not been fun...but a minor inconvenience overall. I'll take it...with some sunny days

wordless wednesdays: Wordless Wednesday: Farm Fresh Meals Advertising
- 01/30/19 10:24 AM
Wordless Wednesday: Farm Fresh Meals Advertising I have been driving up and down El Camino Real in Carlsbad alot recently, with property showings and errands, and noticed this cool old vehicle with advertising for farm fresh meals. It's parked on a side street but with great visibility since El Camino Real is a major north-south thoroughfare...hundreds and hundreds of eyes daily. I had not heard of farm fresh meals before but it's a food delivery service in the area focusing on organic, locally sourced foods. Fully-prepared meals are delivered (weekly choice of menus) on Mondays and Thursdays. I may give it a try!!

wordless wednesdays: Wordless Wednesday: Decorating Your Car for the Holidays
- 12/19/18 05:22 PM
Wordless Wednesday: Decorating Your Car for the Holidays Holiday decorations are everywhere, including on many cars. I was parked in front of this one today - a bright shiny green wreath - but have seen all sorts of decorations...real wreaths, fake wreaths (including a few with lights), reindeer antlers, red Rudolph noses on the hood, candy canes on antennaes, and Santa feet hanging out from under the tail gate. How about you? Do you decorate your car?

wordless wednesdays: Wordless Wednesday: Happy Halloween
- 10/30/18 05:45 PM
Wordless Wednesday: Happy Halloween Lots of homes in my area are decorated for Halloween, as they are every year. No doubt that's true where you live, too. Feel free to share a favorite photo in the comments below on this Halloween day. I took this photo at an oceanview home in Cardiff a few years ago...with the owner's permission. I thought it was very clever, and told her so!

wordless wednesdays: Wordless Wednesday: Does This Sprinkler Make Sense?
- 10/03/18 11:28 AM
Wordless Wednesday: Does This Sprinkler Make Sense? I was showing this house in Oceanside a few years ago and arrived before my buyer, so I took a few minutes to check everything out, including the exterior. This sprinkler in the front corner of the house made me think of some of the inspection issues...and there are many questionable ones...that Richard Weeks shares with us in the Q and A section. I'm not quite sure of the point, given the downspout (but, hey, we only get rain a few times a year), and no plantings. Although given it's spray painted perhaps it was non-functional.

wordless wednesdays: Wordless Wednesday: Time to Chill
- 09/05/18 04:42 PM
Time to Chill This was the perfect sentiment on Sunday afternoon at the beach in Carlsbad. A beach is good for that, and for me some time at the beach helps me relax and step away from whatever is going in life, especially work.Whenever I go I realize how much I enjoy it. Note to self...do more of this!! Our niece from NY was visiting for the weekend...which kept us both busy...but I took some time to chill at the beach with her so she could relax and enjoy some quiet time before heading back home the next day, and back to a hectic

wordless wednesdays: Wordless Wednesday: Ready for the Beach in LA!
- 08/21/18 09:32 PM
Ready for the Beach in LA! I think I'm ready to hit the beach in LA, don't you? Perhaps Santa Monica? Or maybe strutting my stuff down Melrose Avenue?! We had a morning appointment in Westwood yesterday, and afterwards got to spend a few hours with 2 of the grandkids in Inglewood before I drove home last night. My grandaughter Ella had a wonderful paper hat she wanted me to try on, so of course I could not resist. I think the sunglasses add a little flare, don't you?

wordless wednesdays: Wordless Wednesday: Oceanside Wall Mural
- 07/11/18 04:20 PM
Wordless Wednesday: Oceanside Wall Mural I keep adding to my collection of colorful wall murals in Carlsbad as well as from Oceanside. This is the Living Tea Brewing Company building on a small street in Oceanside - if you want to buy Kombucha, I understand THIS is the place in the area. I discovered this cool building last year when I sold an ocean-view town home as a second home to referral clients from Nevada right down the street.

wordless wednesdays: Worldless Wednesday: Cool Outdoor Concert Stage in Playa Vista CA
- 06/27/18 05:41 PM
Worldless Wednesday: A Cool Outdoor Concert Stage in Playa Vista CA I stumbled across this photo of a very cool outdoor covered stage at a park in Playa Vista (now referred to as Silicon Beach) from back in November 2014. We were visiting our daughter and her family and were at the park to feed the ducks first, but also for the photo shoot for their holiday card they do every year. 11-month old Enzo was too young to appreciate the opportunity of being on-stage under the lights as the sun was setting, but 3 1/2 year old Giada took it right in

wordless wednesdays: Wordless Wednesday: Fishermen's Memorial in Ventura CA
- 06/13/18 02:58 PM
Fishermen's Memorial in Ventura CA We spent a long weekend in Ventura at a resort on the marina back in August 2017 with our daughter, her husband, and granddaughter Ella who was a little over 2 at the time. With a young child around one keeps busy exploring, and the marina was a great place to visit, virtually right outsite our door. The harbor seals were a big hit, as was the Fishermen's Memorial in the Ventura Harbor Village Shopping Center area surrounded by shops and restaurants (although Ella lost interest in this pretty quickly). While it was quite beautiful, it was a sobering

wordless wednesdays: Wordless Wednesday: I'm Ready to Apply for a Job at Legoland
- 05/30/18 10:40 PM
I'm Applying for a Job at Legoland I understand that those who work at Legoland need to demonstrate significant experience working with legos. With 2 of our 4 grandkids who really loves legos, I get lots of practice whenever we visit...and I enjoy it immensely, although I have to admit playing with the larger ones is easier in some ways. This was a creation with my 3 year old grandaughter this past Sunday on our birthday visit to LA. Ella has very specific ideas about what is and is not acceptable, so I have to watch my tendency to want to build it

wordless wednesdays: Wordless Wednesday: Sittin' Here Waiting for the Ewoks
- 05/23/18 08:44 PM
Sittin' Here Waiting for the Ewoks On one of several wonderful trips to San Francisco we took a trip to Muir Woods out in Marin County, over the Golden Gate Bridge from SFO. This photo is from 2011. Muir Woods truly is a treasure...if you've been, you know this already. If not, it's well worth a visit. I felt like I was sittin' here waiting for the Ewoks to show up! Star Wars fans will certainly remember the Forest Moon of Endor and the Ewoks in "Return of the Jedi." The actual filming of the Endor scenes were in Del Norte County further north

wordless wednesdays: Wordless Wednesday: Wine and Sunsets Go Together
- 05/09/18 12:20 PM
Wordless Wednesday: Wine and Sunsets Go Together There's something very relaxing, for me at least, about enjoying a nice glass of wine at the end of the day and enjoying a sunset. It was even better in Tuscany. This was our favorite place to sit at the end of each day on our patio with a glass of wine - chianti, of course - when we stayed in Montagnana, about 45 miles from Florence back in 2014. You could see for miles from the hill, looking out over villas and vineyards with several distant hill towns highlighted by the setting sun.

wordless wednesdays: Wordless Wednesday: Hanalei Valley Taro Fields on Kauai
- 05/02/18 08:49 AM
Hanalei Valley Taro Fields on Kauai The taro fields are beautiful and fun to see, especially from the main road on the hill in Princeville above the fields. This photo, taken at a recent visit, is a fond memory, especially in light of the devastating rains and flooding that occurrred recently in the area closing roads, damaging houses, causing mudslides and decimating the taro fields. Reportedly as much as 28 inches of rain may have fallen in the area (I heard varying reports, some stating more than that) in a 24-hour period in mid-April.

wordless wednesdays: Wordless Wednesday: A Cool Refrigerator?
- 04/25/18 05:06 PM
A Cool Refrigerator I was out touring some new model town homes in Carlsbad and came across this cool refrigerator in one of the kitchens. The Samsung Smart Refrigerator allows you to do all kinds of things, at a hefty cost in the thousands. According to their website you can create shopping lists and shop for food, play music and videos, track what's in the darn thing, coordinate your household's schedules, send messages to phones, and more. I had to wonder...do I really want to be THAT connected?! I just want to eat!! How about you?
