On July 31, 1843, Kamehameha III (Kauikeaouli) established this national holiday to celebrate the restoration of sovereignty to the Hawaiian Kingdom. Honor our National Hawaiian history and kūpuna with a flag-raising ceremony at noon. This year, we will be recognizing Judy Napoleon and Haunani-Kay Trask for their patriotism in the Hawaiian movement.
On the occasion of his Majesty King Kalakaua’s birthday celebrations held annually at Iolani Palace, in an act of loyalty to his majesty’s memory, one often sees a contingency of Free Masons with their Masonic aprons paying their respects to one of their former Lodge Masters and benefactors.

In consideration of the current atmosphere of great political and social change here in the United States and in honor of the late Queen Lili'uokalani whose Birthday is celebrated this month, I have decided to post a memorial to our beloved queen and the last monarch of Hawaii nei, whose tribulations and abdication serve as a reminder that the machinations of certain American enterprises in the past and present are directly responsible for the distrust and contempt that some of the world has for this great nation we call the United States, today. This stately home belonged to the last reigning monarch of Hawaii, Queen Lydia Lili'uokalani. After the over throw of the Kingdom of Hawaii she remained in residence here under virtual house arrest until her death on November 11, 1917. Threat of counter insurgency kept her a political prisoner for several years after the overthrow. Once Hawaii became a US territory the queen was powerless to regain her Kingdom despite the fact that the President Cleveland had supported the restoration of Hawaiian sovereignty. `Iolani Palace was the official residence of the Hawaiian Kingdom's monarchy and is considered the seat of the Hawaiian Sovereignty movement today.
