Makahiki Festival in the Upper Meadow at Waimea Valley, to celebrate the season of the Hawaiian New Year. $5 admission for Kama'aina. The only Makahiki, (Hawaiian New Year) festival on the North Shore is in Waimea Valley’s Upper Meadow on Saturday, November 5th. The day’s agenda includes the Te Moana Nui traditional Polynesian sports competition, run by Tahiti Mana, live music, Makahiki games, and local vendors, all hosted by radio and TV personality Mele Apana.

Every Saturday 8 am-12 pm you can visit the valley nursery filled with plants hand-selected and propagated by the Waimea Valley staff. The plants start from cuttings found in the world-class botanical gardens. All proceeds go to the Waimea Valley Botanical department to help further it's dedicated efforts in conservation and native plantings.

Head down to the North Shore’s Waimea Valley for a special Dad's Day BBQ hosted by Ke Nui Kitchen. The fête will feature a grilling station with all the fixings, a beer garden sponsored by Kona Brewing Co, lawn games, live music and free admission into the Valley (same day only).

Waimea Valley is offering free admission to kama‘aina kids 12 years and younger every Wednesday during 2016. With access to the swimming hole, games, botanical garden and more. Keiki will have lots of activities to choose from including additional educational games and demonstrations which may include tours, hula, crafts, music and talking story with the park's kupuna.

North Shore, Waimea Valley Makahiki Festival Saturday Nov. 15
