mesa arizona: Mesa helps to end Veteran homelessness - 05/05/15 05:40 AM

Mesa Arizona has joined a nationwide effort to end veteran homelessness.
In 2010, the White House and VA issued a plan to end Veteran homelessness by the end of 2015. Together with partners and supporters nationwide, VA launched the Ending Veteran Homelessness initiative, an unprecedented effort to make sure Veterans are able to obtain permanent housing and that Veterans at risk of homelessness remain housed.
Decrying the patterns that for years have allowed returning service members to slip through society's cracks, Mesa recently joined a national effort to eradicate veteran homelessness by the end of 2015.
Surrounded by city officials, social-service-agency representatives and a … (2 comments)

mesa arizona: Tuesday Morning to open distribution center in Phoenix - 05/05/15 05:34 AM

Upscale discount retailer Tuesday Morning is opening a distribution center in southwest Phoenix that is expected to create 300 new jobs. I love new jobs in the Phoenix area.  Every additional job adds to the upward spiral.
In one of the biggest Valley lease deals since 2011, the Dallas-based company is renting 593,600 square feet of space near 67th Avenue and Buckeye Road from Liberty Property Trust.
"Our new Phoenix facility will serve our stores in the western United States," Douglas Sullivan, senior vice president of real estate for Tuesday Morning, said in a statement about the deal. "This is an important step … (0 comments)

Autoline Industries Headquarters and Manufacturing Facility
Autoline Industries announced plans for a new 70,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility and corporate headquarters in the historic Sunkist building at the northeast corner of Broadway Rd. and Country Club Dr. in Mesa. I love this for 2 reasons--Jobs in Mesa and this will bring its manufacturing process back from Asia to the facility in Mesa.  Why you ask?  It did not work out.... With this move, the company expects to see increased quality control, lower transportation costs, faster delivery to vendors and greater flexibility in new product development.  GO USA!
The Sunkist citrus packing plant, built … (0 comments)

The Simi Valley, California-based company Special Devices Inc. (SDI) will break ground on a 64,000-square-foot assembly building this March. More buildings could also be built on the East Valley land.
Special Devices Inc. is a Japanese-owned company, it has broken ground on a new $25 million airbag manufacturing plant in Mesa.  SDI's current Mesa plant will also keep operating.

mesa arizona: Apple Data Center Gives Local Contractors Cold Shoulder - 03/18/15 07:58 AM
Plans for the Apple data center may not include local contractors.  Phoenix-area contractors are concerned they will get frozen out of work at Apple Inc.'s planned $2 billion "command center" in Mesa.  The previous plans for the building at Signal Butte and Elliot in Mesa have fallen flat.
Now, Apple is back with data center plans.
Local construction contractors and architects privately worry Apple won't hire many local firms to work on the project and will rely on national and California contractors it has worked with before. Apple  has data centers in Oregon, North Carolina, California and Nevada.
That's common … (0 comments)

mesa arizona: Mesa Promise Zone - 03/18/15 07:56 AM

Mesa is competing for a relatively new national designation that could give parts of the city's struggling west side an edge when vying for federal dollars.
The "Promise Zone" initiative, announced in President Barack Obama's 2013 State of the Union address, partners federal officials with local leaders in high-poverty urban, rural and tribal communities "to create jobs, increase economic activity, improve educational opportunities and reduce violent crime."
Mesa is one of 97 urban applicants in the second round of the competition, which is expected to designate six urban zones, plus at least one rural zone and at least one tribal … (0 comments)

mesa arizona: Michael Orr Sees Uptick in Phoenix Housing Market - 03/18/15 07:47 AM

If you read my blog you know I have great faith in the analysis that Michael Orr does in the Phoenix  housing market.  He has access to MLS data and is right on top of the local market.
The sluggish Phoenix housing market just got a pleasant surprise. New figures show a sudden uptick in buyer demand, with a significant boost in homes under contract since late January.
“I do not think this has anything to do with the crowds that came in for the recent Super Bowl in Arizona, but that is coincidentally when we started to see … (0 comments)

mesa arizona: Phoenix the Next Silicon Valley? - 03/18/15 07:40 AM

When  you hear innovation....do you think Phoenix?  Well you will.  I love the concept that Phoenix is beginning to be  a place for innovative  startup companies.  What makes the US great is entrepreneurship and that is what Phoenix is growing into a hub for.
The current state of the startup ecosystem in Phoenix is like a popcorn bag that’s spent 60 seconds inside a hot microwave. One minute has passed, but only a few pops are audible. Soon, though, a flurry of kernels will heat up just enough to elicit multiple explosions all at once, joining those that have already matured into white … (1 comments)

mesa arizona: Arizona Legislature Helps Apple - 03/18/15 07:12 AM

MESA, AZ - The Arizona Legislature wants to help Apple Inc. by extending renewable energy tax credits and exemptions to cover the 1.3-million-square-foot data center it plans to open in the Phoenix suburb of Mesa.
The building on the corner of Signal Butte and Elliot was originally First Solar, then GT Advanced Technologies...now a data center.  I know people in the neighborhood have been anxiously watching the site to see what will happen next.  It appears that the Arizona legislature is wanting to encourage Apple to bring it's Data Center to Mesa.
Apple Inc. will establish a command center for … (0 comments)
