mesa development: Tuesday Morning to open distribution center in Phoenix - 05/05/15 05:34 AM

Upscale discount retailer Tuesday Morning is opening a distribution center in southwest Phoenix that is expected to create 300 new jobs. I love new jobs in the Phoenix area.  Every additional job adds to the upward spiral.
In one of the biggest Valley lease deals since 2011, the Dallas-based company is renting 593,600 square feet of space near 67th Avenue and Buckeye Road from Liberty Property Trust.
"Our new Phoenix facility will serve our stores in the western United States," Douglas Sullivan, senior vice president of real estate for Tuesday Morning, said in a statement about the deal. "This is an important step … (0 comments)

Autoline Industries Headquarters and Manufacturing Facility
Autoline Industries announced plans for a new 70,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility and corporate headquarters in the historic Sunkist building at the northeast corner of Broadway Rd. and Country Club Dr. in Mesa. I love this for 2 reasons--Jobs in Mesa and this will bring its manufacturing process back from Asia to the facility in Mesa.  Why you ask?  It did not work out.... With this move, the company expects to see increased quality control, lower transportation costs, faster delivery to vendors and greater flexibility in new product development.  GO USA!

mesa development: Mesa Promise Zone - 03/18/15 07:56 AM

Mesa is competing for a relatively new national designation that could give parts of the city's struggling west side an edge when vying for federal dollars.
The "Promise Zone" initiative, announced in President Barack Obama's 2013 State of the Union address, partners federal officials with local leaders in high-poverty urban, rural and tribal communities "to create jobs, increase economic activity, improve educational opportunities and reduce violent crime."
Mesa is one of 97 urban applicants in the second round of the competition, which is expected to designate six urban zones, plus at least one rural zone and at least one tribal … (0 comments)

MESA, AZ - The Arizona Legislature wants to help Apple Inc. by extending renewable energy tax credits and exemptions to cover the 1.3-million-square-foot data center it plans to open in the Phoenix suburb of Mesa.
The building on the corner of Signal Butte and Elliot was originally First Solar, then GT Advanced Technologies...now a data center.  I know people in the neighborhood have been anxiously watching the site to see what will happen next.  It appears that the Arizona legislature is wanting to encourage Apple to bring it's Data Center to Mesa.

mesa development: Housing Critical to Downtown Mesa - 02/18/15 08:58 AM

Downtown Mesa is clearly an evolving area.  The hopes and dreams of Mesa rest on creating a focal point for the city.  The downtown is expanding, more shopping and restaurants are attracting millineals.  With light-rail service set to begin this fall, some feel downtown Mesa is finally on the cusp of its big moment, about ready to burst onto the scene. The sleek Valley Metro trains will link historical Mesa with Arizona State University, Tempe’s Mill Avenue and the skyscrapers of central Phoenix.
Mesa's evolving downtown needs housing to thrive. On that much, the City Council agrees.  But what kind … (2 comments)

mesa development: Apple Won't Get Credits and Rebates for Revised Mesa Plan - 02/18/15 08:55 AM

The 1 million-square-foot Apple building has had a change of plans.  The building that was initially to be First solar, then GT Advanced technologies (manufacturing sapphire glass for Apple) will now be a data center for Apple.
When the 1 million-square-foot building was to be a 700-employee manufacturing facility, incentives and tax credits were committed on the condition that Apple and GT Advanced Technologies delivered the promised jobs with the expected benefits and designated salaries. The manufacturing effort failed, so no incentives were paid out by the state or Mesa.
The new Apple facility doesn't meet the legislative minimum requirements … (0 comments)

Apple is going into a new direction with the GT Advanced Technologies plant in Mesa .  Apple now plans a Data Center at the facility.  This will bring 15o jobs to Mesa. This project will be a huge investment for Apple.  They plan on powering it with renewable energy.
It looks like Apple could be letting go of its ambition to include the super resilient sapphire glass in upcoming iPhone models, spending $2 billion to convert the factory it had wanted to produce sapphire glass into a data center.
Before the launch of the iPhone 6 rumors had swirled that … (1 comments)
