When Steve Arsenault moved to South Florida from Boston 11 years ago, he looked for a sports league that would help him make friends and network with people.
Finding little in that regard, Arsenault took matters into his own hands and founded the Miami Sports and Social Club, a coed recreational sports league for young professionals. He has since expanded that venture with the establishment of the Broward Sports and Social Club.

Coconut Creek Commissioners voted to update the city's laws to continue to limit pain management clinics in the city.
Under the new sections, pain clinics now have to show proof that they are registered with the state of Florida annually, redo their application if they get a new owner, have plans for residents safety including alarm systems and crowd control.
The new law also expands the definition of pain clinics to include pharmacies but exclude those under major corporations like Publix, Walmart and Walgreens.

A Boca Raton-based developer has announced plans for three new apartment communities in Broward and Palm Beach counties.
The Altman Cos. says it will build in Boynton Beach, Coconut Creek and Pembroke Pines. A fourth complex will be in Kendall, adding 1,100 units to the South Florida inventory.
Earlier this month, A Phoenix developer announced plans to build nearly 400 luxury apartments in Coconut Creek. And on Monday, another company said it will build 224 luxury units in Palm Beach Gardens near the Scripps Research Institute.

A Phoenix-based company is capitalizing on demand for rentals with plans to open a 396-unit luxury apartment community next year in Coconut Creek. The first units at Broadstone Cypress Hammocks, 5201 W. Hillsboro Blvd., will be ready in early 2013, and construction on the entire complex is expected to be complete by spring 2014.
One-bedroom units will start at $1,100 a month, two bedrooms will go for $1,500 and three-bedroom apartments will begin at $1,800, said Mike Ging, an executive for the developer, Alliance Residential Co.

Coconut Creek is now one of 15 cities in Broward County to be pushing for water conservation through a county rebate program for high-efficiency toilets.
