Santa Claus is Coming to Crofton, Maryland!
Thanks to the generosity of the Anne Arundel Volunteer Fire Department, Santa will be coming to town this weekend for lunch, and then again throughout the week, visiting the neighborhood children and grown ups while riding on his second-favorite vehicle: an Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firetruck!

Lunch with Santa: Saturday, December 14th at the AVFD - 2380 Davidsonville Road, Gambrills
Santa Claus will stop by the Anne Arundel Volunteer Fire Department from 11-1 on Saturday, December 14th, for hot dogs and balloon animal making with Hugs the clown. Parents, don't forget your cameras! A … (1 comments)

maryland: Christmas Tree Lighting Welcomes Santa Claus to Crofton, Maryland - 12/03/13 10:02 AM
Christmas Tree Lighting Welcomes Santa Claus to Crofton, Maryland

Monday evening, the Crofton Civic Association and Crofton Country Club hosted their annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Christmas party. Since the large evergreen on the Village Green became too large to adorn with lights many years ago, a metal substitute has been the official Crofton Christmas tree. The weather was chilly, but the event drew a sizeable crowd anyway.

Residents gathered outside for the official lighting and Christmas carols were sung by the Elizabeth Ann Seton children’s choir while everyone waited for the illumination.

Once the tree was … (1 comments)

maryland: September Market Study for Davidsonville, Maryland 21035 - 10/20/13 11:11 AM
September Market Study for Davidsonville, Maryland 21035

September was a great month for homesellers in Davidsonville, Maryland. According to RBIntel's Real Estate Market Statistics, 11 homes sold in September which is up from August's 5 closed sales, which is a whopping 12% increase! Pricewise, September saw a slight decrease in the average sold price, which could have more to do with the available inventory as opposed to the market. Further evidence of this is the fact that the ratio of sold price to original list price has increased favorably by 13.27% since August. Instead of sellers receiving 85.5% of the … (3 comments)

maryland: What NOT to Leave Out When Showing Your Crofton, Maryland Home - 09/27/13 11:30 PM
What NOT to Leave Out When Showing Your Crofton, Maryland Home
Recently while showing homes to prospective buyers, I have noticed several "no-no" items left in plain view. Just the other weekend, I was somewhat surprised to see that the current owner had left, among other personal items, his voter registration card tacked to the kitchen bulletin board!
Perhaps you are thinking, "So what? What does a buyer care, the seller doesn't come with the house, after all!" Well, let's say the potential buyer is on the opposite of the political spectrum from the seller. Instead of going through your home … (39 comments)

maryland: August Market Study for Crofton, Maryland 21114 - 09/19/13 11:11 PM
August Market Study for Crofton, Maryland 21114

Homes are on the move in Crofton, Maryland, according to RBIntel's August data. In August 2013, 44 home sales closed successfully, which is up nearly 19% from August 2012, when 37 homes closed. Even better, the average list price has increased by over 20%. The one number that has gone down is a great one: days on market! As anyone who has sold a home can tell you, keeping it ready for interested buyers can be a bit of a pain, but Crofton sellers this past month only had to keep those rooms neat … (4 comments)

maryland: Where to See Fourth of July Fireworks Near Crofton, Maryland - 06/17/13 10:56 PM
Where to See Fourth of July Fireworks Near Crofton, Maryland
One of the best parts about living so close to the Nation's Capital is the annual Independence Day celebration. This all-day event includes a parade down Constitution Avenue, many vendors along the mall, and a concert that will be headlined by Barry Manilow and include many other musical performances. The fireworks will be accompanied by an orchestra led by the famous John Williams. One can also view A Capitol Fourth from the comfort of their living room as it will be broadcast on PBS.
For those looking to stay closer to … (1 comments)

maryland: Everyone Safe from the Storms? - 06/13/13 07:48 AM
Well that was an exciting way to pass an afternoon! While Crofton remained safe from any funnels, nearby Ft. Meade residents spotted one over their homes. Scary stuff! This is my gentle "mother-like" reminder to listen to your local authorities. If they say stay inside, take cover, don't drive, please, do not risk it. There is simply nothing as important as your safety.
I'm guessing home inspections this week in town will pay even more attention to basements!

Crofton, Maryland Summer Concert Series sponsored by the CCA
Another wonderful community even in Crofton, Maryland, is our Summer Concert Series sponsored by the Crofton Civic Association. Held every Sunday evening at 6 o'clock at the Village Green, people of all ages bring their lawnchairs or blankets to enjoy a wide variety of musical styles, from Easy Listening, to Jazz and Bluegrass. Children love running around in front of the band while their parents socialize with neighbors. maryland: Will there be a new high school in Crofton, Maryland? - 06/09/13 12:10 PM
The land has been reserved since our little planned community was established all those years ago. The high schools where our students currently take classes are filling up fast. By 2017, just 4 short years from now, the schools will all be at capacity or exceeding capacity, and that is not even taking into account the multiple new developments in the works. But schools cost A LOT of money! You might be surprised at how much it takes to get a new school, even when one is desperately needed. It turns out that portable classrooms and adding on to existing buildings … (1 comments)

maryland: Greek Festival this weekend in Annapolis, Maryland - OPA! - 05/30/13 03:17 AM
Each year, I look forward to the Annapolis Greek Festival. Typically held the weekend after Memorial Day, starting on that Thursday and going through Sunday, the festival is a wonderful community event that helps raise funds for the parish of Sts. Constantine and Helen. You don't have to be Greek yourself to enjoy the tasty treats like Gyros, Souvlaki, and Dolmades, as well as a huge selection of Greek baked goods - do not skip the Loukoumades, which are similar to donut holes, but soaked in honey. Lots of activities for both young and old, with moonbounces, face painting, arts and … (2 comments)

maryland: You Shouldn't Take It With You - 05/05/13 04:30 AM
A very dear friend of mine just realized her dream of eighteen years. She is now a homeowner. With all of the excitement of what was to come, G. began the arduous process of organizing the rental home that she had shared with her family for those first eighteen years of her marriage. What G. quickly discovered is that having lived in the place for so long, she had managed to cram every nook and cranny with all of their belonging accumulated up until that point. Although long past the baby years, for example, she had held on to baby toys … (5 comments)

maryland: The Ups & Downs of Being a Hometown REALTOR® - Crofton, Maryland - 05/03/13 05:58 AM
From the age of five, give or take some years for college and a post-college foray into Virginia living, I have been a resident of Crofton, Maryland. My parents still live in the same house where I rollerskated in the garage and caught lightning bugs in mayonnaise jars.
Growing up, I decided that nothing could be so boring as to settle in one's childhood town. As they say, we make plans, God (or my mother) laughs.
Much to my surprise, when you get older, you see many things in a new light. And so after my first was born, I dragged my … (4 comments)
