If anything is certain about the foreclosure crisis, it's that it isn't over. That fact has important implications, not only for people losing their homes, but also for those planning to sell or buy a home this year. As of January, about 3 million properties were in foreclosure, headed that way or already owned by banks, according to CoreLogic, an information, analytics and business services company in Santa Ana, Calif. According to the National Association of Realtors existing-home sales will jump 7 to 10 percent in 2012 to the highest level in five years, based on an "uneven but higher sales pattern" so far this year. Pending sales were up, from January to February, 9.2% from the same time in '11. The Midwest saw a month-over-month gain of 6.5 percent and a 19 percent gain from a year ago. Due to low interest rate,s and a limited supply of homes currently on the market, Twin Cities home buyers had signed over 3,700 purchase agreements in February. This is a 34% increase compared with last year at this time and is the best February since '06. This is according to data released by the Minneapolis Area Association of Realtors on 3/12/2012. Foreclosures continued to represent more than 40% of all sales which caused the median sale price to fall 1.4% to $138k. That was the smallest price decline in 16 months a good sign for what's to come!

Banks are foreclosing on America's churches in record numbers as lenders increasingly lose patience with religious facilities that have defaulted on their mortgages, according to new data. The surge in church foreclosures represents a new wave of distressed property seizures triggered by the 2008 financial crash, analysts say, with many banks no longer willing to grant struggling religious organizations forbearance. The Obama Administration this week announced a cost-cutting move to open the door to cheaper government loans for as many as 3 million borrowers. Helping refinancing homeowners cash in on today's rock-bottommortgage rates, the Administration ordered the Federal Housing Administration to significantly cut costs on loans refinanced under the Federal Housing Administration's (FHA) Streamline Refinance Program. Up to three million U.S. homeowners could save around $1000 a year through cheaper government-backed mortgages unveiled by the White House on Tuesday in an election year move to help the shaky housing market. The step is the latest in a series by the Obama administration to aid struggling homeowners.
