epro: Google Translate is a great tool - learn to use it! - 02/20/17 09:17 AM
I was reading a few real estate blogs on activerain.com this morning and saw one posted that I would have bet was spam since it was written in a foreign language.  Fortunately, I recognized the language and a few words.
Since I started Kindergarten in Vietnam back in about 1966 at the Phoenix Study Group, it felt appropriate to have to take a crash course in Vietnamese again to learn more about this.
I opened another tab https://translate.google.com
That was pretty easy, so I went down to the body of the blog and cut and pasted, the next section...
With the assistance of Google Translate, I found a … (3 comments)

epro: Normal is just the average of the extremes! - 02/09/17 10:43 AM
One day as I was relaxing enjoying a beer after work and I overheard a question on the other side of the bar:  "What is normal anyway?"
I really wasn't evesdropping, but for some reason that question came across crystal clear.  Out of nowwhere, the answer popped into my head and I responded "It is the average of the extremes!"
That sparked quite the conversation.  If you ever studied statistical analysis, you probably are familiar with the bell curve and standard deviations.
As the graph above shows, one standard deviation encompasses 68.2% of the entire sample.  When you go out 2 standard deviations, … (33 comments)

epro: Digital Photography for Realtors - heading toward Virtual Reality - 05/29/15 05:02 AM
I am amazed that many Realtors still have not come into the digital age and invested in a digital camera.
I was trying to remember when I first invested in my first digital camera and think it was back in 1999 when I got my Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) designation from the National Association of Realtors.  I still have mine and use it when I teach e-PRO classes to impress my students with my "state of the art" technology.
This was the first digital camera to sell for under $500 (the original MSRP was $999).  Look at the amazing specs on that beast!  Quality … (6 comments)

epro: The best new technology tool = Disney's IdeaPad - 11/17/11 08:44 AM
As a national real estate trainer, Realtors are continously asking me which is the best laptop, computer or "pad" to buy.  The answer depends on your sophistication level, budget and needs.
I have been using Tablet PC's for nearly 10 years starting with a Gateway, then an HP, then an iPad.
The learning curve for some non technical agents is rather steep so maybe the best thing to do is start slow and work your way up.  The best technology tool I found to help was at the recent National Association of Realtor's convention in Anaheim, California!
I was taking a … (9 comments)

epro: Katango's potential solution to organize your friends on Facebook and Google+ - 09/28/11 09:35 PM
If you haven’t heard about a new startup called Katango, you will! With Google + now giving their users the ability to “share” circles, this will be needed more than ever!  If you have started giving up cataloging your friend data base on Facebook, you can test it now.
Think about it, since you don’t pay for Facebook or Google +, they make their money selling information about you or by selling advertisers access to you!  These social media giants have a vested interest to make sure their target marketing is on target.  They want to "help" you organize your database … (4 comments)

epro: Does Your Real Estate Agent Have Klout? - 09/26/11 04:44 AM
Social Media is forever changing the way we communicate and do business.  We post things on Facebook, Tweet this or that, + things on Google, and then go blog about our life.
In the revised EPRO class, one thing they cover is a relatively new company called Klout which attempts to guage how much online influence you have based on:
How many people you influence (True Reach) How much you influence them via responses and sharing your data (Amplification) How influential they are based on if top influencers are influenced by you (Network Score) When you first sign up for Klout, … (8 comments)

epro: HP Touchpad is the first major casualty of the 2011 Pad Wars - 08/22/11 02:18 AM
I have been a Tablet user two computer generations prior to the now popular iPad.  It has been great seeing competition heat up and bring down prices while increasing functionality.  In November 2010, PCworld had an article titled "Why your next PC will be a tablet" http://www.pcworld.com/article/211193-2/why_your_next_pc_will_be_a_tablet.html  That article points out many great functions of tablet's even though a lot has changed since that article.
The iPad has been incredibly popular selling about 25 million of them to date.  I have had mine since December 2010 and at that time they had only sold about 14 million.  With great success however comes … (1 comments)

epro: Business Darwinism - If you don't evolve you will die! - 07/11/10 05:44 AM
I have always been intrigued by the creation vs. evolution theories that are out there.  It doesn't matter at this point how we got here, but if we don't want to go the way of the dinosaurs, we better think about how we might want to "evolve" our business models.
For example, when I attended Boise State University in the early 1980's to get a degree in Marketing, Google didn't even exist.  The God(s) had not yet created it.  Google evolved from a Larry Page and Sergey Brin's "Digital Library Project" when they were Stanford University graduate students.  Back then I … (4 comments)

epro: How to buy your real estate domain for your website - 10/05/08 06:47 AM
I have seen multiple posts requesting  "how to buy and set up your real estate website".  Therefore, I just edited my profile with a link that can be used to order your domain main name and get started today!
I am a "Pro Resller" for GoDaddy.com.   I do not mark up their websites over their retail rates, feel free to compare my pricing!  I figured as long as I will be buying multiple domains for my agents and my company, I might as well get hooked up to buy those wholesale.  You can also buy the Reseller and Pro Reseller … (3 comments)

epro: Do you want specific NAR licensing specialties? - 10/03/08 07:06 AM
I have been a Realtor for 17 years and can't believe that our industry has not yet stepped up to the plate of true specialization!  It is time to break down the 1,257,491 members of NAR as of July 31, 2008 into various real specialties. In todays complex real estate market, one license should not allow the person to practice all real estate.
What would happen if all doctors were general practitioners, how would you differentiate between the dentist and the proctologist?  Eww, that thought left a bad taste in my mouth.
Instead of just designations, I recommend phasing in a … (13 comments)
